It's a full moon and cat is going mental

Just that really. Cat is very restless, quite unusual for her, looked out of the window and thought 'ah full moon'. I remember thinking the same earlier on in the year.

Promise I'm not a complete whack job, but anyone else noticed this with animals??

Not just animals. My mum works for the NHS and used to say she knew when there was a full moon because of the patients.

Shamoo · 04/08/2020 00:20

My dog is going insane tonight!!! Driving me mad!

Flowers009 · 04/08/2020 00:20

You can always tell

IAintentDead · 04/08/2020 00:22

All the studies will tell you this doesn't happen.

Anyone with experience will tell you it does.

I used to work in a children's home. This was pre internet when you could check the full moon on any calendar site.

It would be 'Kids are playing up' and when we checked the calendar at least 4 out of 5 times it would be full moon.

But NO scientific evidence says it isn't a factor

Coldemort · 04/08/2020 00:29

She's driving me round the bend! First it was just running around, now she's found her voice and is yowling at me. Shes a middle aged mog who's usually fast asleep at my feet by now Confused

Back when it was all fields around here, the moon phase was displayed at the top of the webpage. The mood definitely changed at full moon!!

Ticklemelmo · 04/08/2020 00:32

My cats won't sleep and running around the house, in every open room. Very strange.

Dazzedandconfused · 04/08/2020 00:35

My cat has been the same. Yowling, pawing at me and doing zoomies from room to room. It is weird lol

twoshedsjackson · 04/08/2020 00:35

It's certainly true for school age children, and windy weather does it as well. They "get the wind up their tails" and I'm assured by a horsey friend that it affects horses as well.
Heaven preserve us from full moon and a stiff breeze coinciding......

IncyWincyGrownUp · 04/08/2020 01:07

I work in a school, we often feel like we need helmets on full moon days. Rationally we know it’s bollocks, but most children aren’t rational.

DramaAlpaca · 04/08/2020 01:09

Yes, it's a thing with cats, dogs and small children, both at full moons and on very windy days.

ilovesooty · 04/08/2020 01:13

My cats are asleep. Perhaps no one told them.

ToLongNow · 04/08/2020 01:16

The police swear by it too
...

Full moon, Going to be a crazy night

Notenoughchocolateomg · 04/08/2020 01:19

My cat is chilled and acting normal. My youngest boy I can often tell it's a full moon..but tonight he's fine. He didn't get the memo either apparently.

AfterSchoolWorry · 04/08/2020 01:48

It's probably because the sky is brighter, better conditions for hunting.

My two cats are asleep on the job! 😽 😽

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 04/08/2020 02:04

I have a friend who is a 911 call handler. She hates the full moon. They get very busy. All the idiots come out to play and distract from the real emergency stuff.

Myshitisreal · 04/08/2020 02:11

One of our cats has been diving on my husbands feet for hours biting his toes. She does love a good toe bite but not normally with such vigour 😺 🤦‍♂️

She's Currently in bed with me chewing the fuck out of my fingers, proper bitey 😂

Onetwothree456 · 04/08/2020 02:15

Yes! Both cats have been wired all evening. One did a flying leap into glass door and there has been lots of howling into the night which is unusual. Saying that, they are two house cats who have been exploring the outside world a bit in recent days and minds have been blown with the wonder of it all! 😺 So thst might be a factor. But tonight they have been unusually excited.

catgirl1976 · 04/08/2020 05:21

Given it’s 5:19 am and I’ve been awake for an hour due to the cat waking me up yowling and zooming round the house I’d say YANBU

(Still awake as DH is snoring like a dying walrus so can’t get back off) 🙄

whenwewereyoung · 04/08/2020 06:37

Just seen this thread! My kittens were going crazy last night, I had to go down and check on them a few times as they were going absolutely mental. That explains it.

RabbityMcRabbit · 04/08/2020 06:44

It affects older children too, I used to work in a secondary school and we always dreaded having a lesson observation on either a full moon or a windy day.

steff13 · 04/08/2020 06:47

My father was a police officer. He believed it.

Oldraver · 04/08/2020 06:47

DS2 was born just before the full moon (as in 23 odd hours but it looked full moon)

I was already in hospiytal and the place was going crazy, several of the ladies on my high risk ward went into labour just before the were due CS.

My waters broke and they were going to ship me off to another hospital as there was no room in SCBU

BarkingHat · 04/08/2020 06:48

Yep, old vat behaving like a loon no5 helped by an overactive puppy assuming it’s play time. It’s not and old cat still doesn’t want to play with you.

BovaryX · 04/08/2020 06:51

Yes, it sends them deranged. I think the brightness is like an extension of their hunting time. They are usually lethargic except for dawn and dusk. Crepuscular felines....
