To move in with my MIL

The end of my tenancy is coming up in November and the rent is £950 a month and on top of £190 council tax and all of my other bills it is crippling me each month. I’m in £10,000 worth of debt, some from silly decisions and not managing money well but the biggest chunk having to take out a loan after a bad breakup. I am self-employed and have just had a baby and am the higher earner out of me and my partner and I am working as much as I can but the money just goes towards my rent and paying off debt. I’m not sure what to do - I moved out at 18 and have been living independently ever since. I would feel embarrassed about having to go back to living with family but I’m starting to consider it to be able to get out of debt and rebuild my credit. I can either continue my tenancy and being in and out of my overdraft, find a new cheaper place but have to go further into my overdraft to pay a deposit, or move in with my in-laws. I’ve had a fair few disagreements with my MIL and I’m not sure it would work out, and my parents live in a 3-bed, tiny house with their young children, there’s absolutely no room for me, let alone me, my partner and baby. It wouldn’t take me long at all to get out of the debt, so I am considering the in-law move as they have suggested it and they have an absolutely massive house so we would have our own space - I’m just not sure what to do. I’m not sure if I’d be able to get on the housing association register because I do earn a lot of money, but I never seem to see any of it. Any advice?

Do it. But map out a clear plan of how you will save and find out your mils ground rules.

Don't do it. Get a cheaper place. If you move in with MIL, it will end in tears.

Anything would be better than living with MIL. Is your partner not helping pay bills?
