To be crying for DS1?

He's 19yo and took Alevels last summer.

He's been working for a fast food chain whilst trying to pusue his dream which involves a very demanding selection process by a government agency, which of course was suspended by the lockdown and now is being incredibly inefficient about restarting (lots of confusion over dates etc)

He spent a long time on furlough, was one of the first to volunteer to go back. Just before lockdown he'd been promised promotion and that didn't happen either. He's been back since late May and they've been delaying but he's finally heard that it will be this month.

Meantime DH, his dad has been diagnosed with cancer and whilst we have plenty of hope, the news is quite grave.

Through all of this DS has stayed positive and cheerful, he was a joy to have at home during his furlough (before the diagnosis).

Today, in receiving the first good news in ages, his imeadiate reaction was to announce he's treating us to a pizza delivery for tea....and I burst into tears.

RandomStupidName · 03/08/2020 19:59

Your boy is a star. He’s having a tough time, but seems resilient and you should be really proud of him.

bogoffmda · 03/08/2020 20:00

OP for Mums with sons - we all hope we can raise sons with EQ better than the average male.

You have succeeded - sorry about your sad news but what a resilient, kind, caring emotionally mature young man you have raised. In the dark days ahead, he sounds like the sort of son you will need and be able to lean on and he you.

Enjoy the pizza and I hope I manage as well as you haveto raise my two.

mbosnz · 03/08/2020 20:00

That's the kind of fella I'd be real happy for my daughter to bring home!

All the strength and healing wishes for your husband.

Cryalot2 · 03/08/2020 20:01

Your son sounds like a fantastic person. It’s made my day to hear something like this - he clearly has a very pure heart and you sound like a wonderful mum who appreciates him.
Enjoy your evening together OP x

What a wonderful son you have 💐

OneStepAheadOfTheToddler · 03/08/2020 20:05

He sounds lovely. I would be proud if my DS grew up to be like yours.

Pinkypie86 · 03/08/2020 20:09

He sounds like an absolute gem! You're entitled to have a good old cry. I feel like crying for you, not that it'll help.

Keep smiling though, and remind him of just how lovely he is. What a wonderful Mum you are. X

2018SoFarSoGreat · 03/08/2020 20:09

@Pizzapromotion what a special young man you have raised. Well done you!

I may just have something in my eye. Both eyes.

SukiPutTheEarlGreyOn · 03/08/2020 20:10

He deserves to go far, op. That strength, resilience and grace under pressure indicates he’ll be an asset to whichever organisation is lucky enough to get him as well as the empathy that shows what a humane and kind man is becoming. You’ve obviously done a great job raising a son to be proud of. Wishing you all well Flowers

Watdafark · 03/08/2020 20:11

You've clearly raised a good one. I hope things improve for you all. Smile

YoyoRiot · 03/08/2020 20:15

I teased up too. What a fear of a son you have. You must be a terrific mother.

DoIneed1 · 03/08/2020 20:15

What a lovely young man!

VinylDetective · 03/08/2020 20:18

There’s something in my eye. What a brilliant job you’ve done.

AgentCooper · 03/08/2020 20:19

Christ, I’m crying after reading that. What a wonderful boy. Well done Flowers

Pizzapromotion · 03/08/2020 20:26

Aw, thanks everyone. I didn't mean to brag or I'd have mentioned that while he was on furlough he jet-washed the drive and patio, painted the front of the house and did all the heavy lifting for me on my garden project Grin

Yes, I'm very pleased with how he's turned out but also aware there's time for him to go off the rails yet, so hopefully not too smug Smile
