I know I’m very lucky to be in this position but my moral compass is confused! I’m a contractor and the company has asked me to interview to become staff, which they approached me about, about a month ago. We also had the conversation about the fact this role is considered a dead end role and I genuinely was happy with this - it’s a job I’m not looking for a career just stable income no stress and I said I’m not looking to move quite happy etc etc. Someone has approached me about a permanent role within another team same part of the business, it’s a lot higher in grade with progression opportunities, study and training - I am interested but I’ve already said to my current LM that I wouldn’t look around once I was in the door: WIBU to pursue both roles? I’m pretty much guaranteed to role I’m already doing it’s a tick box exercise Argh I wish I was a ruthless SOAB
TIA

Well, you haven't looked around they came to you. If you pursue it that would be the starting point for any revealing to your lm. Also, if you go for both roles at the same time you aren't jumping out of one into another but making a straight either or choice.
No one could blame you for wanting to go permanent.
But if you want a low stress job, does the opportunity that requires study really float your boat or is it the extra money it comes with.
What are the company politics / LM like? Are they likely to try to 'punish' you, like create obstructions if you go for the other one.
But waffly, I'm sure someone with more concise advice will come along. 😊

You don't owe your current line manager anything though. You're doing a contract for them. It's up to them to find a solution if you've been given a better option elsewhere.

I did vote, but not according to the options you laid out.

I don't understand the voting. Yanbu to pursue both

Go for it, there aren’t many opportunities for such things, however I would check to ensure they are the real deal and they don’t just want you as a temp on the sly but telling you it’s permanent. I’ve had that happen once! Something to do with being cheaper than getting temp staff? Anyway.. good luck

DO IT.
You didn't look - they looked for you.
And good luck, whatever path you decide to take.
