To be freaking out about past pregnancies

I asked the pharmacist yesterday for some co-codamol for severe back pain. She asked if I was pregnant (I'm not) but it got me checking online when I got home.
I've had a bad back for many years which I've learnt to mostly manage with exercise but during lockdown I haven't been able to go swimming so it's gotten worse. Years ago when I had my two kids I was on 8 tablets of 30/500 co-codamol a day to control the pain.No doctors or midwives ever told me I shouldn't be taking it but nowadays advice is not to use it in pregnancy.

Whoops, posted before I'd finished.
My 'babies' are now 9 and 11 with no obvious health problems so am I being unreasonable to be fretting about taking pills in pregnancy after all this time?

Last year I would have said YABU 100%😳

Now?🤔 I think the current pandemic is threw a lot of even previously mentally stable people into turmoil. People think about things they never thought about before. Anxiety is over the roof. Sometimes for silly reasons (at least it seems silly to an outsider)☺️

I hope your back ache is managed. Just breath ☺️☺️☺️ 💐

OP, chin up! You have two beautiful and healthy children

Ps: forgot to mention, that we (including me 😔) can be harsh on Mumsnet, so it might not be the best platform ☺️

I never thought about the lockdown being responsible. I have noticed I've been worrying about a lot of things lately that have never bothered me before.

I took 8 x 30/500 for most of my pregnancy up to 30 weeks, and then slowly weaned off until I had my baby at 39 weeks.

I was in agony and I now have a healthy son.

Your children are healthy so try not to stress about it.

I wouldn’t say responsible as such @Bowbells7 but it certainly had an impact on me, on all of my friends and family. 💐

Lots of people use cocodamol in pregnancy. It’s ‘not recommended’ as high doses of codeine for prolonged periods of time can cause withdrawal in newborns, which might mean a longer postnatal stay, but I don’t think there are any long term effects.
Be kind to yourself.

It can be taken in some circumstances in pregnancy (unlike ibuprofen which I believe is a complete no no). I took it for a migraine at about 38 weeks on the advice of midwives, as I was throwing up and paracetamol was doing nothing. It is often given in early labour too I believe, I had it then too. It may be it is less dangerous in the final trimester or something, I’m not sure.

Anyway. Your kids are fine. It hasn’t done them any harm. Relax 🙂

They still prescribe it needed - I've needed it 3 times a day for most of both my pregnancies, I just weaned off it by 37w.

I was prescribed codeine during pregnancy with my 7 year old dd

I had severe SPD and I was taking every day for months

So don’t worry
