Hi, I’m just looking for some advice.

Our neighbours have a hot tub that’s close to our joining fence. During this whole lockdown period, they have had people in and out of their house and weren’t following lockdown rules with family gatherings and parties throughout.

Because of this, there have been many different people in the hot tub. The hot tub, without a doubt, always leaks into our garden. I’ve messaged our neighbours regarding this and they apologised profusely and told us that they would get a Perspex screen to prevent any water coming in and even telling us that the water is clean. It can’t be clean as everyone who visits the house goes in it.

Now, it’s happening again. The water has already damaged plants in the past and we’ve had to move things around to prevent it from damaging any more of our garden but it just keeps happening.

I don’t know what to do, does anyone have any advice?

Take photos and keep telling your ndn. They are aware theres a leak which they need to fix. Hopefully they will reimburse you for the damage. I would ask them to come and have a look.

heartsonacake · 02/08/2020 18:58

I would have fixed this issue months ago by reporting them every single time they broke lockdown rules by having others over.

Tinyhumansurvivalist · 02/08/2020 19:00

hot tubs are chlorinated so it you are concerned about covid then there is very little reason to be.

As for the leak and property damage, photos and document. Keep telling them. My dm and df have similar issues with their neighbours and the hot tub.

We have reported them to 101 regarding them breaking lockdown rules every single time and the police attended once but it didn’t stop them even though we were told to keep reporting

Just spoke with them about it and was told to f**k off and that it’s ‘just water’.

Nice. Did they sound pissed.
Do you think its a leak or water spilling over when people are in it.

Rosspoldarkssaddle · 02/08/2020 19:29

Spray your hosepipe over the fence. If they complain tell them it's just water. Twats.

Coffeethrowtrampbitch · 02/08/2020 19:33

Do you have home insurance with legal cover?
It sounds like they might need a lawyer's letter to realise that criminal damage of others' property is, well, criminal, and they could be forced to pay for it and all court fees as well.
It will only cost the price of your excess if they decide to take action after you raise this with them, the worst that will happen is that they will say they cannot act for you.

Yeah, they all sounded drunk and quite aggressive. We were in the garden when more water leaked into the garden and splashed my dogs. We think it’s when people are going in and out of it or moving around in it.

That’s a good idea! Might have to do that! 😂

So I would be watering plants every time they use the hot tub, and if it goes over the fence so be it. I would also put on loud music right up next to the fence

Then when they complain I would tell them to duck off

Alternatively I would pay for a solicitors letter advising them it’s harrassment and they have to move the tub away from your fence to stop it being damaged, and present a bill for payment to them for the damage to date

It’s not just water, it’s chlorinated normally

Tinyhumansurvivalist · 02/08/2020 19:40

I'd consider speaking to the environmental department at your local council about chemicals being dumped on your garden by the neighbours.

They are knobs @loopy09

Yeah, I think we’re having to go down that route. It’s the fact that they are so unbothered by it that is most frustrating. Thank you for the advice!

This. Definitely speak to council. It’s chemicals (and who knows what bodily fluids). They sound like morons.

Is it an inflatable hot tub?
If it is I'd be pushing a knitting needle through a gap in the fence to burst the bloody thing.
As others have said spray your hose pipe, have a massive family water fight in the garden.
Bit of a pain for you but can you pour some stinky manure on the plants by the hot tub so the place stinks of shit.
Having neighbour disputes myself so I sympathise.

Yeah it’s an inflatable hot tub! I’ve been very tempted to do that many times!

Ooh that’s a good shout about the manure on the plants!

@Tinyhumansurvivalist @MeridianB Thank you! I’m contacting my local council tomorrow about it and see what can be done! The very fact that it keeps happening and we’re supposed to just let it according to my NDN is just concerning so hopefully environmental health will help

A nice bucket with lid
place nettles in water inside
let it ferment for at least a couple of weeks
its an excellent fertilizer
it also has an unbelievable stink when you leave lid off

I had a similar issue with a blow-up pool bulging into my garden last year, it was up against my wooden fence, and wooden fences are notoriously prickly things. Hypothetically, a few jabs from a sewing needle would be indistinguishable from some splinters of wood poking it Grin Quite the satisfying solution, let us know how it goes.

I would honestly contact everybody in one email with a big CC list, so that nobody can pass the buck. I would include photographic evidence. (Faces blurred)
