TFL needs to be made safer?

Had to take the Tube in the City yesterday and today - requires one bus and one tube and the same back.

Literally no one using the hand sanitiser stations at the Tube stations, less than 30% of the bus wearing masks (most wearing them under their chin). People getting on the bus wearing their mask below their chin shouting at each other with spit flying everywhere.

No verbal reminders / messages to wear your mask. People blatantly ignoring one way messages around stations and platforms.

A lot of people not social distancing. There was no one there to enforce it either.

Did not see a single member of TFL staff, event security staff or police anywhere apart from in the ticket office.

Unsure what the solution is to be honest - maybe ban / suspend their travel cards / TFL accounts for a week?

People really just don't seem to give a shit.

Yes. It’s a problem some passengers are simply not adhering to rules
TFL staff simply aren’t enforcing. Don’t know why. Fear of confrontation?
Buses it’s easier they don’t open the door, don’t allow entry
You simply have to adhere to guidelines yourself, mask is protective for you it reduces aerosol inhalation. Protecting others as it reduces aerosol transmission
Use hand sanitizer too and wash hands in warm water with soap when you can

Don’t most people use contactless these days?

Dozer · 02/08/2020 16:20

TfL / police don’t have resources to enforce the rules.

SentientAndCognisant · 02/08/2020 16:27

Yes, they’re both a stretched resource

Starbuggy · 02/08/2020 16:33

Because some people are genuinely exempt. Staff challenging these people may be accused of discrimination.

And because some people are arseholes and staff challenging them will be entering confrontation, which puts them at risk of aggression and also Covid if people are getting close to them and shouting in their face without masks.

The answer is for people to stop being dicks. But that’s sadly never going to happen.

Transport police can enforce it, but obviously don’t have the resources to be everywhere and since anyone can claim to have an exemption, pretty pointless.

Really do appreciate this - I am, but I can wear one without it affecting me so I do (although totally understand that that does not mean everyone can).

It's really tough to enforce it, I do understand that. Yes, agree, people do need to stop being dicks. I just stopped shielding so I think my anxiety is through the roof about it all.

I know it’s obv v stressful esp if you were shielding too
On this one you have to take measures for yourself, for your protection

skippy67 · 02/08/2020 19:17

I very much doubt there was "spit flying everywhere"...

SentientAndCognisant · 02/08/2020 19:29

There will be droplet transmission & aerosol transmission so, yes the saliva will be flying about
When it’s autumn/winter and your breath mists up in front of you when you talk and exhale, that’s how far covid and other respiratory illnesses travel
