To think if you can't wear a mask you should wear a visor?

Just been to the shops, most people wearing masks but a significant portion not (interestingly it was mainly overweight middle aged men, only mentioned as they have one of the worst outcomes so it seemed strange)
I can see only a tiny % of over 12's not being able to wear a visor that sits on your head with clear plastic in front of the face. I understand why people can't wear masks but the fact no one is allowed to challenge anyone means the selfish hits that have no medical reason get away with not wearing them.
By insisting a visor or mask before entry to a shop I would imagine the anti mask brigade would start wearing masks which is more effective in preventing the spread as a visor would be more faff.

IABU: you can't make people wear PPE
IANBU: make masks OR visors compulsory

I think a visor is definitely a good option but on another thread someone said that it isn't that great either (pressure over the temples). However, I'm sure there's a difference for some people between having something touching (and blocking up) your face and having something in front of it that you can see through. If I couldn't wear a mask I would wear a visor if it were an option. Everyone should do what they can.

Visors aren’t as safe as the majority of people think. They need to be worn WITH a mask to be effective. A visor alone won’t stop the spread.

Aside from visors not being as effective as masks, not everyone unable to wear a mask will be able to wear a visor.

Everyone should wear a mask/visor if you are able to and presume that those you see without them are unable to for whatever reason.

I know but I'm thinking of ways to make those who think it's not their problem to wear one. These people don't give a shit about any one else and can wear them. I fully support those that can't wear masks, someone heartbreakingly described on here why they couldn't and why they were interrogated at a minor injuries unit.

What’s the point of wearing a visor if it doesn’t work though? Just “for show”?

I think there are lots of face covering options from soft scarves, buffs to silk/jersey fabrics etc. I’m sure most people who just don’t like them could find something that works for them (I’m not talking about the truly exempt here). I just don’t see the point in incorrectly wearing a visor which most likely doesn’t stop anyone passing on Covid.

Visors aren't very safe on their own. You're supposed to wear them with a mask, not instead of one.

MeMyselfAye · 01/08/2020 17:59

I was in a bar today, staff wearing visors. I could see the spit hitting the guys visor as he spoke to me, looks like better than nothing to me!

DipSwimSwoosh · 01/08/2020 18:02

Surely if they can't wear a mask they maybe can't wear a visor? Also, didn't shielding people start coming out and about today, part of the reason we all have to wear masks now? So these vulnerable men you mentioned may have been shielding and may have other problems preventing them from wearing masks. Just speculating.

countrygirl99 · 01/08/2020 18:04

Wearing a visor is just ticking a pointless box. Just mind your own business.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 01/08/2020 18:09

Not everyone who can't wear a mask can wear a visor.

We're in Majorca now where masks are mandatory for everyone (presumably medical exemptions apply, with proof). There's a fine for not wearing one and in the course of a week I haven't seen a single person walk past us without one on, unless in an area where they're exempt (poolside, beach etc).

Are there just far less people here with medical exemptions than there seems to be in the UK? Hmm
