Just bought my 5 year old a load of running gear because she wants to start running. She’s so excited to go but I’m just too embarrassed. Now I feel awful and she’s really upset.

Kick me up the the ass please and motivate me to stop being a bellend!!

Are you embarrassed for you or her? Could you cycle instead, while she runs?

JizzPigeon22 · 01/08/2020 14:28

For me. I’m so fat now. I know I need to go running but I just can bring myself being seen by anyone.

You can do this, it's something you can do with your daughter. It's bonding and fun and you are likely to feel healthier. You will be teaching your daughter life long exercise habits.
If I say you I'd have nothing but an internal smile.

cravingthelook · 01/08/2020 14:45

Saw* you.

And f*ck what anyone thinks. Do what you and your daughter want

albatrossdreams · 01/08/2020 14:50

I think you should manage your, and your daughter's, expectations. If you are very unfit and overweight, you may find you can't run or at least not very far at all. You might need to start doing a walk/ run/walk/run.

As for what other people think, I always respect overweight people I see exercising or being active.
But do try not to care what others think. You are a stranger to them, even if anyone is negative, you are a passing thought to them, of no consequence. So don't let being a stranger's passing thought, stop you from doing something great with your daughter.

OP, go out, enjoy time with your DC.

Streets around here are lined with people walking, jogging, cycling etc since lockdown, nobody pays any attention.

Its quieter in the morning, so if your really worried, maybe leave early, or find a local park to walk around to start.

TimelyManor · 01/08/2020 15:01

What you need to do is tape down your pinky and ring finger with your thumb holding them, go out with your daughter, pretend you're in Chariots of Fire and if anyone so much as looks at you part the two remaining fingers and hold them up towards that person. If they say anything hold down your index finger.

You can do this!

JizzPigeon22 · 01/08/2020 16:09

We went. I walked this time and she ran but she loved it. We’re going to try and get up early tomorrow and go first thing when it’s cooler.

Well done Jizzpigeon, that’s really great of you to do this for your daughter and you. In fact you’ve inspired me to suggest it for my dd6 SmileStar

Sparklesocks · 01/08/2020 16:17

Well done for doing it!!
Try and keep at it if you can, it gets easier and easier. And I promise people will barely notice you.

cravingthelook · 01/08/2020 16:24

@JizzPigeon22 YES! Go you

cheekaa · 01/08/2020 16:27

binkyblinky · 01/08/2020 17:12

I'm
A size 18-20 and I've started couch to 5k. Only ever had looks of encouragement and smiles from people! I felt embarrassed at first but I don't anymore

TimelyManor · 01/08/2020 17:27

Well done! Smile

JizzPigeon22 · 01/08/2020 17:28

Think I might treat myself to some new running clothes to keep me motivated!
