Still no beauty treatments! (Latest Boris update)

My beautician just called me. I was booked in (rescheduled the 3rd time since June), but now due to the latest government update, we cannot do my session! FGS! 😡 it is just cancelled! - and I feel sorry for them too! They spent a fortune to get the salon ready for opening tomorrow and now they were told they still cannot do facials. 😔
I know this lot keeps making extremely short notice decisions - like they are just not thinking!

I wish there was a feminine woman in that blooming government so we could get beauticians back. (We had golf, football, formula one, barbers ... reinstated weeks ago!)
Or should I just go to the barber and get my monobrow separated? 🤔🤔
AIBU to be royally pissed off? 😔

God this pisses me off. We are still in the middle of a global pandemic. Eyebrows and facials are not bloody essential Angry

Ifonlywecouldwishuponastar · 31/07/2020 17:28

I think you are being unreasonable. People are still dying of covid and there is bound to be a second peak. What is so important that needs to be done?! You could always go on you tube, for tutorials if it's eyebrows or whatever.

CharlOtteSometime · 31/07/2020 17:30

Lots of people completely missing the point.

This massively impacts WOMEN. Those in the beauty industry - they're mainly women. And the op is entirely correct when she points out a man can have his beard trimmed but a woman can't. Let's imagine I have a moustache which I regularly have trimmed or waxed. I can't have it trimmed tomorrow

Let's imagine a man who has a moustache. Or sideburns. Or other facial hair. He can, in law, have his trimmed tomorrow

Women are the ones ultimately being punished here - and it's not anything to do with ' a feminine woman in parliament.' It's everything to do with a colossal disparity

letmethinkaboutitfornow · 31/07/2020 17:31

@SoupDragon - I would be happy to wear a mask just get my monobrows separated 😔

Some may call it vanity, I completely understand them, BUT! 😭
I put a light make up on during my calls, but it’s not the same 😔

(And just read the full list which also includes weddings being cancelled, so I see that on the scale of things this is not the worst, but I was soooo looking forward to it)

@netflixismysidehustle - well, to be fair, I think there are more people using beauticians than ice rink in the middle of the summer (our local one has just gone into administration due to Covid 😔)

Just do your own eyebrows and save your worry/annoyance for important things

jcurve · 31/07/2020 17:35

YANBU. Boris thinks it’s super cool & totally safe for me to catch a packed tube into central London and go back to my office from midnight tonight, because we must save Pret and Itsu, but woman-led businesses are worth sacrificing.

letmethinkaboutitfornow · 31/07/2020 17:36

@dementedpixie - okay, we win! I would rather go without the beautician than shutting down the gyms again! My beloved gym just opened a few days ago, so I am hoping that all of those lockdown curves (and the curves of the curves!) slowly start to disappear as I certainly do not a new wardrobe!
I hope you get your gyms open soon! 🤞

YANBU

Bilingualspingual · 31/07/2020 17:38

The people who work in the beauty industry might baulk at the ones on here who sneer about how ‘unimportant’ it is. Not everyone works in an office. I work in an industry that has pretty much closed down at the moment and it’s terrifying. The inability to make a living is not ‘unimportant’.

Rhine · 31/07/2020 17:43

Genuine question. Why the fuck can’t men shave their own faces? It does smack of double standards and I’m not particularly a girly girl either.

Yes, in the middle of a pandemic, the priority obviously is beauty treatments. Hmm

When it’s your profession and source of income it’s bloody important.
DobbyTheHouseElk · 31/07/2020 17:49

FFS, don’t people realise this is how we pay our mortgages.

The vast majority do?

The primary purpose of barbers is, and always has been, cutting hair, so the issue here is that you are not comparing like-for-like. The equivalent here would be to compare barbers to hairdressing salons, not beauty salons.

Neither are barbers doing beard trims, or pubs, or primark, or McDonald's, or a load of other businesses which are back open. What's your point?
babylukesmum · 31/07/2020 18:00

Was really looking forward to my brow wax tomorrow :( feeling sorry for the beauticians who had got everyone booked in their diaries and had their salons ready for tomorrow. Not much longer for you to wait I hope x

tiredanddangerous · 31/07/2020 18:01

You could always pluck your own eyebrows? Obviously beauticians want you to believe that your face will fall off if you do, but just get a pair of tweezers and crack on ffs.

It isn't equivalent when barbers can do shaves/beard trims.

I would rather wait a couple of weeks and go to my regular lady :) a nice little break for me from the kids and I want to support her business during this time.
Worsthomeschoolteacherever · 31/07/2020 18:03

I’ve had eyebrows threaded but I’m in NI. Felt very safe. Temp checked, girl was wearing gloves, goggles and special facemask so that thread goes through new bit added to it on the outside rather than her mouth, seats wiped down and contact details taken.

MrsNoah2020 · 31/07/2020 18:03

@Lovelydovey

Beauticians are largely female owned businesses - it does rather feel than the recovery is being led by men with their interests prioritised.
This. Regardless of whether beauty treatments are necessary for the customers (they're not, obviously, but neither is going to the pub or barber), the government has shafted tens of thousands of small, female-owned businesses.

Close fecking pubs, where hundreds of people can be sharing each others' viruses over the course of a day, not beauticians who see one person at a time and who can clean their room after each client.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 31/07/2020 18:05

My eyebrows would be the least of my worries at this time. Get a pair of tweezers of need be, it’s hardly a task that onerous or hard.

I’d rather we had routine health appointments, smear tests etc back up and running than non essentials.

letmethinkaboutitfornow · 31/07/2020 18:08

@babylukesmum - sorry to hear that yours also got cancelled.
I really like my salon, they have been amazing at keeping me posted, offering great treatment packages as and when they open. I feel as much sorry for them as for myself 😔
So as they can do back massage, I asked whether they could do that, so they are not losing out completely. It’s not their fault

@tiredanddangerous - nonononono! I better not to try. Been there, done that. Just NO! YouTube is a wonderful thing but I am blind without my glasses so I’d rather wait for the expert 😂

Exactly, that's why hardly anyone cares. My friend does eyebrows, she has invested a lot in making her studio CoViD sAfE and it has a huge impact for her and her family that the day before she is told she can't open. But she's just a woman, who cares.

CurbsideProphet · 31/07/2020 18:10

I would feel safer having my eyebrows threaded for 10minutes than having a drink in a Wetherspoons on a Saturday afternoon.

I don’t think the same people are involved? 🤔
Most beauticians are women and I want to support my local business as they have been amazing in the last 5 years I’ve been going there. They remember my birthday and always get a cheeky treatment or some Dermalogica product 🥰🥰
