Car failed it's MOT, 2 minor issues which I've sorted this afternoon. A condescending fucker of a man (I'm female BTW) has taken it upon himself to declare that's why people are stupid to use the 6 month MOT extension.... 'cos safety!'.

  1. I haven't used the extension.
  2. The issues are so minor there's no chance of them causing an issue (they would if left unresolved for a few years).
  3. He's a misogynistic know it all who has form for this behaviour.

Do I ignore or do I put the fucker in his place? If I say something it could go back & forth all night as he grapples to regain face.

YABU - Ignore
YANBU - Flame him

Give him the row he wants and gets to play nasty all day.
Ignore him and he's left fishing with no bait and no hook like an impotent garden gnome.

I'm not sure this was a criticism of your actions. He could've been simply stating the importance of the MOT. You had issues which you said are minor but may have got worse if you left them. And when you deal with people day in day out it's the sort of naff conversation you might make.Grin

Added to this it's far to hot to argue!Wink

So YABU

Who is he? Why is he in your life? Why does he have the opportunity to behave like this to you?

Block him and move on and hopefully never have to listen to him ever again.

GarlicMonkey · 31/07/2020 16:37

It was definitely aimed at me.

He's a friend of my partner & he suffers from bromance jealousy.

Return fire, like Carrie Fisher's character in Blues Brothers. Flamethrower and bazooka at a bare minimum.

Iwalkinmyclothing · 31/07/2020 16:56

How is this being communicated? Face to face, over WhatsApp, etc?

5foot5 · 31/07/2020 17:02

Hm, not quite the issue being asked I suppose, but did you have any choice about taking the extension?

My car was booked in for an MOT in early April and the week before the garage rang me to say that the appointment was cancelled due to COVID but it was OK because the government had granted this extension. I finally got to gave it MOT'd about a month ago. Delaying it was nothing to do with "stupidity" it was a situation I was forced in to.

Thymeout · 31/07/2020 17:10

Mine was due today. I rang the garage and they recommended extending it because they hadn't got their mechanics back from furlough yet. I have a v low mileage and am pleased not to have the faff as well as sorting out insurance and tax.

Feralkidsatthecampsite · 31/07/2020 17:14

Print off a fake mechanic certificate with your name on. Tell him he only got the job to make him appear useful..

Brilliant. Best thing I’ve seen today!
FedUpAtHomeTroels · 31/07/2020 18:47

Give it with both barrels and then turn and walk away, don't give him a chance to try and be more vile. You Dp needs a better bromance

I disagree with your assertion.

Anything that causes a fail on a mot is a safety issue. End of. The bloke is right and making a point about the government's extension programme and you're just sparring for a fight.

TorkTorkBam · 31/07/2020 19:03

Twats like him hate being irrelevant more than anything on earth. You hurt him most by totally ignoring everything he said.

Like he is no more relevant than a toddler telling you how to drive a tractor. React accordingly. Bless his cotton socks. Smile. Be polite. Do not treat as a serious conversation.

It will destroy him.

LannieDuck · 31/07/2020 19:15

I would go with #1. Simple, factual, and completely undercuts what he was trying to imply.
