AIBU garden furniture cushions

This is a total first world problem :) Please help!

Recently bought our first ever Rattan Garden sofa sofa set with cushioned removable seating.
DH is driving us mad as he insists the cushions need to go come inside the house every single day – rain or shine.

I’m sure the whole point of this furniture that they are outdoor and waterproof?

Makes sense to store them away in the winter, but right now it’s too much hassle to keep taking taking off all the seating lads and backs inside and outside so we actually ended up not using the seating very much because you constantly have to take the seating cushions in and out!

What do you all do?

@Bluntness100

For me it’s not if they get ruined if they get wet, more if they get soaked then you can’t use them until they are dry.
I went to a hotel where they never brought the lounger cushions in at night. It was a place with tropical rain most nights. They were disgusting to sit on in the mornings.

The ones I mentioned bat can stay out all year don’t hold the water so you can go out 10 minutes after the rain has stopped and sit on them straight away. I’m not sure what the technology is but it’s very impressive!

To those with rattan furniture, can I ask how long it's lasted or you expect it to last? Mine is a reasonable make, Hartman's, & I think I've had it about 7-8 yes. The rattan is now breaking, I think the sun is cracking, splitting it. I thought it might be general use doing it to the sofas but the table, which has a glass top, a look so has quite a few broken bits of weave. I think it will last another 1-2 yes at the most. It will be 8-10 yrs old by then, I think that's reasonable but DH thinks not.

Yep, covered up in the summer, cushions in during the winter.

We have some furniture by four seasons (4SO) that’s absolutely wonderful. Leave it out all year apart from the cushions. Specifically told not to cover it in winter as it would trap moisture. It’s five years old and looks like new.

Just bought some Kettler stuff for second patio. Cheaper and doesn’t look as hard wearing but have paid £250 for covers, so hopefully that’ll help.

@mofro - I have the exact same set.
I would advise you not to leave the glass on the table all the time.
Top of our table has just disintegrated.
The cushions come out when it's gonna be a good dry spell.
Then when a lot of rain is forecast they come in again.
I'll put them out today and won't bring them in now until Sunday night - looking at the forecast.
They are bloody heavy and pain to lug about.
If HE wants to do it then let him but it's too much hassle.
There are soooooo many cushions!!!

RiverFlowers · 30/07/2020 13:05

We have a big storage box and if it is going to rain we put them away - otherwise leave them out. Obviously in winter we keep them stored

bendmeoverbackwards · 30/07/2020 13:11

Thank you @mofro are you getting that size? Just looking at Amazon now, they have loads of different sizes!

BananaCake10 · 30/07/2020 13:15

We have a rattan storage box that we fit all our cushions into and it keeps them perfectly dry - would save bringing them into the house every night. The one we got works fine and was only just over £100 on Wayfair.

minipie · 30/07/2020 14:11

Do you have a link BananaCake? I’ve seen so many where the reviews say things get wet.

mofro · 30/07/2020 14:34
