To think my portion was too large (photo)?

I’m living a bit ‘on the road’ at the moment (essential) and relying on eating out - trying to be as healthy as I can as I’m trying (!) to lose weight.

I have attached a photo of tonight’s evening meal, my only meal of the day plus a few snacks. My photo isn’t the best unfortunately but it was a bowl of spicy rice and a bowl of bean stew/soup (I’m vegetarian).

Aibu to think I had too much? Would you have eaten all of it? Unfortunately through years of dieting and binge eating I have lost sight of what a normal portion of food is and how ‘normal’ people eat.

Ps i appreciate it doesn’t look very nice but it was actually quite tasty!

So some kind of personal responsibility didn't kick in and you think you could stretch it out to tomorrow and somehow slant the blame onto a fast food joint that you paid maybe £15 for with delivery is in the wrong?

Rainbowb · 29/07/2020 22:32

Did you enjoy it? If so good, you don’t need to invite the fun police to investigate. Couldn’t eat spicy rice and beans myself though- would end up gassing my long suffering dh all evening Grin

trixiebelden77 · 29/07/2020 22:35

My God. Some people’s dedication to performative food restriction is so great they’ll come onto a thread by someone who acknowledges they’ve had issues with disordered eating and scream ludicrous hyperbole about ‘feeling sick’ just looking at a quantity of food.

Every last one of you who has done that is an absolute fuckwit.

tillyandmilly · 29/07/2020 22:36

no looks fine to me - don't get how people can just have a tiny bit of rice - how do you get full!

Ribrabrob · 29/07/2020 22:36

@Justanotherlurker no I’m certainly not blaming the restaurant, I ate it after all - they didn’t force me Grin I’m not in the UK, the cost was the equivalent of about £1.50 and I sat in to eat it so no I didn’t pay for the delivery.

DocusDiplo · 29/07/2020 22:37

@Justanotherlurker Are you feeling OK in yourself? Seems like a pretty horrible way to talk to someone. Has someone made you feel like that? I hope you find a way to find happiness without belittling other people that you don't know anything about.

Mangofandangoo · 29/07/2020 22:37

Looks very large to me OP, perhaps 2 or three portions

Thisismytimetoshine · 29/07/2020 22:39

Why did you take the photo at such an oblique angle, op? The bowls are not that gigantic that they wouldn't fit in the picture, surely to God?
I still say they're not half as big as people are imagining.

Phoebesgift · 29/07/2020 22:40

It looks massive and way too much to eat for me anyway. I am more of a grazer though.

Laaalaaaa · 29/07/2020 22:41

Yay the competitive under eaters have arrived. I had 1 grain of rice for tea, probs won’t need to eat until Sunday now.

WorraLiberty · 29/07/2020 22:44

The OP has asked if people think the portion was too large

I don't understand why some people are being nasty to those who say that yes, they think it's too large?

DollyDoneMore · 29/07/2020 22:45

Too large for what?

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 29/07/2020 22:46

I find that all the buffet places here who dish up for you always serve massive portions. They also charge extra for uneaten food so I assume it's a money making exercise.

Thisismytimetoshine · 29/07/2020 22:48

It's fine to say it's too large. Saying the sight of it makes you want to vomit or declaring you wouldn't dream of eating so much and that's why you're still a size 6 is unnecessary nonsense.
TrainspottingWelsh · 29/07/2020 22:48

I know we're all meant to be impressed by bird like appetites and carb avoidance, but I'm not sure why anyone would want to boast about the fact they exert themselves so rarely they only require a small intake. It takes some serious effort to avoid any meaningful exercise to the extent they consider that a big portion. Barring a medical reason or being the very rare exception you have to be one hell of a lazy arse to have the calorie requirements of half these posts. I'm now just reading them as competitive laziness.

Maybe you could stroll up it and call it a day of high powered mountaineering.

Chickenwing · 29/07/2020 22:50

If this is your only meal of the day then it isnt enough food to sustain you. I think its healthy enough but agree its wierd to have seperated them.

Thisismytimetoshine · 29/07/2020 22:51

And madcatlady, I realise you've had issues, but that bowl is only one step up from an egg cup. What's the relevance of posting it here and claiming your three daily meals are that size?

BakedCam · 29/07/2020 22:53

That's needs, OP, a large doorstep of bread and butter.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 29/07/2020 22:56

I don't agree the food on a pic is as healthy as some posters thinkBlush

It's a buffet. There will be oil on the grains and lots in the stew too. It's absolutely fine to eat it once in a while though. Just not every day.

raspberryk · 29/07/2020 22:56

I'd eat that but I am fat I think my bmi is 27/28

WorraLiberty · 29/07/2020 22:57

Ahh fair point. I missed that.

DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 29/07/2020 23:00

Did you feel unecessarily full after? Do you feel stuffed or comfortably full? Really its pointless someone saying its too large if your sitting there and your stomach is growling

It is a large portion, but theres not much too it other than rice and beans. An entire tin of cannelini beans is 240kcal, and entire uncle bens sachet is 340kcal. So thats under 600kcal + some veg and water. Maybe 700kcal? For your only meal of the day thats fine. Its hardly excessive. Plus thats not just rice its definitely more barley

DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 29/07/2020 23:01

@madcatladyforever you have a gastric band, your portion sizes are hardly relevent, they are going to be signifcantly smaller than the majority

uniglowooljumper · 29/07/2020 23:05

Gawd, yes, it's too large, that excuse for food looks fit for only the bin. Eating just a mouthful of that rubbish look rot is too much.

DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 29/07/2020 23:07

@TrainspottingWelsh I always wonder on these threads when women say they only eat 1200 kcal a day to maintain do they just sit still all day? My BMR is definitely higher than that.
