Teens get bad press a lot of the time!! Especially since stuck at home since March...
..
So a thread to allow for some niceties!!
Yesterday I asked dd13 did she have to be so loud...
She declared it my fault she only came with one volume!!
And just now ds 16 has been having banter with his mate via an online game and ranting about x, y and z knowing about whatever it is they should know about - I piped up that now I know - he relayed to his mate - see even my dm knows now!
Was very funny!!

Not so much of what my teen said, but what he did, lazy monkey - I went into the bathroom and discovered a jam tart sitting on the cistern. I guessed immediately which son had left it there and went to ask him about it. "Oh yeah" he said "I wondered where that had gone!". "Well" I replied "No one will be able to eat it now, can you go and dispose of it?".

Precisely two minutes later, I return to the bathroom to discover he has done no more than throw the offending jam tart into the WICKER waste bin, and the jam has started to slide down the inside of the bin and seep into all the gaps in the wicker structure! Honestly, I could have done that myself and cut out the lazy middleman! This was a few years ago, and it always makes me smile. He's still quite messy, God love him!

Dd13 wanted to suprise the family by making my mums red wine beef stew, but there wasn't a bottle of red wine open and she didn't know which one she could use, so she substituted the wine for sherry. The result was so heinous that all we could do was laugh.

Laburnam · 30/07/2020 07:39

Talking to my DD about what she thinks would be the merits of going camping,
her answer was the not going camping at all

UnicornPug · 30/07/2020 07:47

Mine thought the self service checkout was voice activated for items without a bar code. I discovered this when she grabbed the single pineapple and, leaning towards the scanner, said in her most authoritative and clear voice ‘PINEAPPLE’
I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so much. She styled it out saying it wasn’t her fault the technology hadn’t caught up- if Alexa and Siri know what a pineapple is then surely the checkout should?

I have a DS 17 with ASD and a NT 13 DD....

Dishing up diner last night and DD is in a mood as I put too much food on her plate and I was trying to get her to talk to me about it. We were just going around in circles; me with talk to me and her with it’s nothing! Just as we are getting into the peak my son bursts out singing... C is for cookie that’s good enough for me... C is for Cookie that’s good enough for me! I look at him and he is grinning from ear to ear and all 3 of us burst out laughing! I give DD a hug and finish dishing out dinner.

Feralkidsatthecampsite · 30/07/2020 09:19

Ds 11 last night (not quite a teen yet but sneaking this in!) offered dcat some cake off his own spoon - dh commented was he going to use that spoon after the dcat.. Ds protested it was OK as they are related!!

DS17 reply: Weekish.

dementedma · 30/07/2020 09:37

Me to enormous DS(18), I swear you've grown overnight!
DS, yeah mum, that's kind of how it works.

Rockbird · 30/07/2020 09:40

DD1 is 12 so not quite a teen but she's been doing these tiktok videos (private account, doesn't post) where she acts out scenes against herself and she's hilarious. Her facial expressions are spot on. I didn't realise she had such a talent for it.

GiveMeAllTheGin8 · 30/07/2020 09:45

These are hilarious Grin Mine are still small but I love teens and the way they go on !
Someone mentioned the black market . It was only when I was I’d say about 19 that I also thought it was a place Blush
I also thought when you turned 17 your drivers license would get posted and you could then drive without lessons Blush
I have many more, I was extremely naive Confused

Pantsinthewash · 30/07/2020 17:56

My son’s first language was not English. He’s 15 now and speaks English that is directly translated from Italian so his sentence structure can be a bit off. He also doesn’t know all the English words for everyday things. Recently he handed me a letter and said “this came in the door hole for you” having directly traslate the Italian buca delle lettere (hole for the letters). He had no idea that it’s called the letterbox! He also refers to indicators on a car as “direction changers”. Makes me smile every time I hear it.

2toe · 30/07/2020 18:22

When discussing something recently my 15 year old said “Your moral compass is like a roulette wheel, we never know where the ball will land”.

paellaandpies · 30/07/2020 18:25

Ah this is a nice thread! Mine are still little and some of the stories I hear make me dread the teen years, so it’s great to see some good tales Grin

Feralkidsatthecampsite · 30/07/2020 19:28

Once heard my teen ds tell a new gf on her way through our front door (first visit poor lass) that 'if my dm doesn't like you ya dumped'!!
He also hadn't told her how many siblings would be there. She wouldn't even go to the loo alone and never came back to visit again!!

Ds17 pinched dd15 phone and sent me a text pretending to be from her saying "I think I've got diabetes"
I don't know why but it really tickled me!!

Straysocks · 30/07/2020 19:42

My teen got his friend to FaceTime me on his phone so I could see him having a great time on an improvised woodland swing. They were having so much fun, it was so nice to be included.

Feralkidsatthecampsite · 30/07/2020 19:50

Ds sent me this at stupid o'clock the other night..
Ds is 16..

Mine accidentally made a pot noodle with cold water today! He forgot to turn on the kettle and just assumed it had boiled. He is 13 and makes me laugh every day 😊

Beamur · 30/07/2020 19:58
Grin These are funny. My DD makes me laugh all the time. We just popped out for a takeaway tea and she spotted a spider as we were waiting outside and promptly called it 'Bon Iver' then turned to me and said if she gives something she's scared of a name, it personifies it and then it's less scary. She's also been taking photos and little films of Instagram filters which have been fun, she's not at all vain and posted several pictures of her face which were not flattering! She has funny little quirks in the way she speaks and a habit of running to the end of the corridor even if the door she wants is not at the end. Then does a sort of comedy reverse.
MacavityTheDentistsCat · 30/07/2020 20:09

My DD has recently often had her ticket checked on the train and been asked for her identity card to prove her age. It happened again today but without her being asked to prove her age. She remarked that she must be looking 'young and fresh today'. She's 14 Grin.
