Cat biting my little girl

Mammaaof · 29/07/2020 13:01

I went out into our garden this morning and my little girl followed me out (enclosed garden no way she can get out) she started playing in her sand pit so I went back into the kitchen and left the door open, I was back and fore to the garden and back inside just pottering around. When I heard a scream, I ran out and my little girl was holding her hand saying the cat bite her, I asked her where the cat was and it was sitting on our garden chair but it was tucked under the table so I didn't see it when I was in the garden.
Now this car is known to be nasty, always hisses and shows its teeth at any neighbors who shoos it out of their gardens. This cat is constantly coming into our garden and sitting on our furniture.
Now I'm assuming my little girl has gone and tried to stroke the cat so not trying to make out she didn't do anything.
But aibu if I went and told the neighbour what had happened? Just to add we don't get along with these neighbours, neither does anyone in the street
Sorry for long post thank you x

I completely agree @Mittens030869. As I said, I'd be taking my cat to the vet to check he wasn't in pain to start with and then I'd be looking at ways to cat proof the garden. There's no way I'd rehome him, although I think you absolutely did the right thing in your circumstances. I don't have children so it's only DH and I so that makes a difference.

Mammaaof · 01/08/2020 17:22

They can't even manage to take the rubbish out the garden is absolutely piled high with rubbish bags so there is no way I could relay on them to cat proof the garden 😓 also with the sandpit it does thankfully have a lid and I always close it as soon as she comes out as I am afraid of the cat or other cats using it as a litter tray! It's too bad that everyone has to worry about that as parents tho x

Have you called the RSPCA about the cat?

Tell them it’s cereal and causing trouble, I doubt it has a chip.

BluebellsGreenbells · 01/08/2020 17:35

Or catch it in a cage and take it to them, give your parents address assuming it’s miles away from your house and see if they claim it back. At least the cat will get a better home.

doityourselfnow · 01/08/2020 17:42

Be careful with the sandpit as well, as others have said the cat may be using it as a litter tray, I picked up worms from our sandpit as a child

Do tell me how on earth it was decided that you were specifically infected from the sand pit!

Mittens030869 · 01/08/2020 18:10

I definitely think you should report these people to the RSPCA. The poor cat definitely sounds as if it's not being properly looked after from what you've said.

Wolfiefan · 01/08/2020 18:42

Cereal?
The RSPCA won’t care unless the cat is not fed or abandoned in a house.
We had a black cat near us that would attack. Never let the kids out alone. Water pistol.
It’s really not an RSPCA matter. It’s a supervise your child one.

Mammaaof · 01/08/2020 18:48

@BluebellsGreenbells I have called RSPCA but not sure if it's due to covid but told me as it's got a "home" then they wouldn't come out. Even tho the neighbour told me there's patches of its fur missing she said due to fleas but ive never got that close to see it. Unfortunately my parents live only 5mins away x

@Wolfiefan no I refuse to be a prisoner in my own house not able to use my garden and sit outside for 6 hours a day while my children play, they play outside alone I am not changing that because neighbours can't look after their own animal. They are perfectly safe impossible to get out, and I can hear them and see them through kitchen window and I'm back and fore all the time. Don't need your parenting advice. If you have nothing helpful to add then pass along.

Wolfiefan · 01/08/2020 19:36

So they’re safe but the two year old is being bitten by a cat.
Your kids. Your responsibility.
You won’t be able to leave them alone in the garden with a puppy either.
And no. The RSPCA won’t come out to a cat unless it’s a seriously injured stray etc.

Mammaaof · 01/08/2020 19:59

@Wolfiefan their cat their responsibilityWink

This cat! People on here want it killed, reported, we're prisoners in our own homes! Grin I've honestly never read such a wet thread!

Wolfiefan · 01/08/2020 20:36

Your property and your child.
Unless you want them camped out in your garden with a water pistol. Confused

Mammaaof · 01/08/2020 21:20

@Wolfiefan ok we can all see your goading so jog on

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 01/08/2020 21:39

Nope.
Not goading. Just wondering why you don’t step in and protect your child but expect the RSPCA to act.

Mammaaof · 01/08/2020 21:41

@Wolfiefan your right I'm such a horrific parent.

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 01/08/2020 21:45

You’re.
Not horrific. I didn’t say that. But you seriously expect the RSPCA to intervene because a cat comes in your garden and you don’t bother to supervise a small child out there?
Lax maybe?

Mammaaof · 01/08/2020 21:46

@Wolfiefan going to ring SS in the morning first thing. Your opinion matters to me so much so thank you.

Mammaaof · 01/08/2020 21:47

@Wolfiefan also called rspca weeks ago before it bit MY child.

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 01/08/2020 21:49

Why call RSPCA? Is the cat being beaten or starved?
Or do you just not like it coming into your garden??
It’s not their problem. They won’t be interested. Deal with your child yourself. Or barricade your garden so it can’t get in??

Mammaaof · 01/08/2020 21:50

@Wolfiefan have you even read the thread from the beginning!?

OP posts:
Mammaaof · 01/08/2020 21:52

@Wolfiefan it attacks other neighbours, it's got patches of fur missing due to fleas (I've been told not got close enough) comes into everyone's house whenever any windows or doors are left open then gets really nasty shows teeth and starts hissing. Not allowed into its own house milk is just left on the doorstep for it, tries to attack ANY neighbour who even steps foot into their own garden.

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 01/08/2020 22:09

It’s not an animal welfare issue.
Fleas? Rumour and it could be an allergy. So one flea bite makes it scratch until it’s bald.
Attacking people? Clearly a psycho kitty. Bit the RSPCA won’t lock it up for that!
Get a water pistol.
If it was starving to death then RSPCA might (don’t hold your breath) be interested.
They don’t deal in kitty ASBOs. Confused

Mammaaof · 01/08/2020 22:12

@Wolfiefan ok love won't be replying again to you. Enjoy your weekendWink

Mammaaof · 01/08/2020 22:13

@Wolfiefan second thoughts are you my neighbour, although you seem to care more about the cat than they do 😉
