Question from a seller re postage on eBay item

I’ve sold something on eBay and put the postage cost in the description. They haven’t paid yet and I checked it, it showed how much it’s sold for then underneath says postage (free for buyer, you pay) but why is it saying that? Thought maybe I’d made a mistake and forgotten to put the postage cost so checked original listing and I hadn’t, the postage cost is there. So why is it saying I have to pay for postage? I’m so confused!

You put the postage cost in the description? But didn't actually set it in the Delivery section when creating the listing?

Star81 · 29/07/2020 08:23

Sounds like you haven’t put the delivery cost in correctly. Sorry, but you may be liable for it if you haven’t.

honeygirlz · 29/07/2020 08:26

Yes, as pp said, you need to select method of delivery (Royal Mail First Class, Second Class etc) and say how much you want to charge he buyer.

IamMaz · 29/07/2020 08:28

Can you send them an amended invoice which includes the postage cost, and explain that in the comments bit?

Emmy2020 · 29/07/2020 08:29

@malmi @star81 Double checked and it’s in the original description, says the cost it sold for and next to it the second class postage and then the cost so it’s definitely there, and even says it further down the page under postage, returns and payments heading. So it’s definitely there. The only place it says it’s free is where it’s showing the the awaiting payment.

@honeygirlz Checked original description and the postage is there, second class and the cost. So really don’t understand why it now says it’s free?

@IamMaz That’s a good idea, they haven’t paid yet anyway.

Could it be you've set to free if buyer collects? I don't think you can get rid of that option.

Star81 · 29/07/2020 08:38

If you try and send a payment reminder invoice is it showing the postage cost you’ve asked for on it ?

Flackattack · 29/07/2020 08:44

Sometimes it comes up as free (when it isn’t) if they are buying from abroad under ebays international seller thing where you send it to one of eBays addresses. They will be charged the price you set and eBay forward it on.
Don’t panic until they pay - I’ve had this a few times.

Emmy2020 · 29/07/2020 10:23

@honeygirlz No I didn’t set that option, I guess once they finally pay I will see wether the postage was included. Maybe it’s just a mistake ebay has made?

Yes, I would contact eBay now. They were super helpful recently to me.

Emmy2020 · 29/07/2020 10:50

@honeygirlz Thankyou I’ll do that now 😊

I nearly got caught out with this too. The postage cost will show but you might have selected that you pay...

eBay sometimes select things for you annoyingly and you have to alter their suggestions. Same with despatch time. I selected 5 days and they kept changing it to 3 days.
