I've paid for next week's group holiday but no one has paid their contribution!

Weird situation. Going on UK holiday with a friend, her two friends and our 5 children. I agreed to pay for the whole thing on a spare credit card on the basis that they'd BACS me their contribution but I've not received a dime. I paid 5 weeks ago and we leave next Monday.

What's the standard protocol on this? I don't want to get into a situation where I have to chase them for money after the holiday, when they'd obviously be less inclined to pay or where I may get dribs and drabs over an extended period. Given the number of people coming it's obviously cost quite a bit.

Why have you got yourself in this position? What happens if they don’t pay?

Nottherealslimshady · 28/07/2020 21:39

Tell them you need them to pay you today otherwise your going to be charged interest. Not on at all. You've lost the money anyway, dont let them go if they dont pay you.

Bmidreams · 28/07/2020 21:41

"I hope no one is expecting to go on holiday next week. No money in my account yet"

I like this!

SavoyCabbage · 28/07/2020 21:44

I would be very straightforward about it.

You need the money to be paid in to your account by midday tomorrow. Send your bank account details and the amounts.

Gives them a couple of hours when the actual banks are open tomorrow.

Waferbiscuit · 28/07/2020 21:44

I emailed my bank details when I booked then sent a reminder 2 weeks ago. I get that people live paycheck to paycheck but if you have to wait til payday to pay for your holiday I think a holiday shouldn't be a priority but now I'm just getting judgey because I'm pissed off!

The OP is IN the UK, not overseas.
They need to pay now. Remind them and include the wording about interest.
If you went without them it would cost you the same as going with them and you paying (doubt you'd get any refund now) but no risk they'd expect you to pay for food!

@Bmidreams

"I hope no one is expecting to go on holiday next week. No money in my account yet"

I don’t like it as it’s almost offering the option of not paying and not going.
MiniCooperLover · 28/07/2020 21:46

Have you actually asked for payment yet??

AldiAisleofCrap · 28/07/2020 21:49

There are probably not planning on going as it’s against guidelines.

AldiAisleofCrap · 28/07/2020 21:49

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 28/07/2020 21:52

Definetly text them all first thing in the morning

"Credit card bill is in, please transfer the payment to me by the end of the day so I can settle the bill. My details are....."

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 28/07/2020 21:56

Why text? Messages haven’t worked. I’d call, maybe even with my number withheld. Harder to wriggle out of.

Givemestrengthorgin · 28/07/2020 21:56

This is ridiculous behaviour from them. Why are you even pussy footing around this. Get them told to pay the money now. These people don't seem like good friends.

gamerchick · 28/07/2020 21:57

Next time something like this comes about. you book once all the money is in and not before. No excuses.

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 28/07/2020 21:57

"Hi all, payment is due on my credit card so I'll need the holiday money by tomorrow –can you let me know when you've sent it? Save me from keep checking my account. Thanks, looking forward to the trip!"

SnackSizeRaisin · 28/07/2020 21:58

For me the expectation would be payment before I paid or immediately after. I would make this clear at the time. I would now email them straight away and just ask them to transfer the money asap and provide bank details. If no response within 48 hours I would chase it up and repeat. From experience some people really drag their feet about paying (even if they intend to pay at some point) and to avoid bad feeling it's best to state at the outset what the arrangement is.
I once arranged a new year trip to rural Wales. We got there and several people had not paid. When I asked for money they were most put out as there was no cashpoint within miles. I eventually said pay now or we are not going out for new years dinner. It was a bit stressful.

rookiemere · 28/07/2020 21:59

Can you cancel ?

If not then contact them and let them know you've had to pay and can they forward their share asap.

jelly79 · 28/07/2020 21:59

Did you not agree on how this was to be paid back before you booked it?

Definitely get it sorted before you go away - call them and explain the bill is due by Friday so can they get it over to you before then.

I wouldn't get pissed off if you didn't agree a date for payment first

Arthersleep · 28/07/2020 21:59

Time to be upfront.
Contact them all and say, " Hi, not heard from anyone since I paid for the holiday five weeks ago. Obviously the plan was to go on Monday. However, as I have heard nothing from you, can you please confirm whether you intend to go ahead? Tell them how much they owe you if they go and how much they will still owe you if you cancel. Just be straight up. Any nice person would feel mortified over having forgotten to pay you and will be glad of a reminder. And anyone who still cannot be bothered is not the sort of person that you need not worry about offending, as they clearly don't give a shit about you!

Northernsoulgirl45 · 28/07/2020 22:00

Hope you get the money op.

BrieAndChilli · 28/07/2020 22:01

I would send a message saying that you will cancel the booking if you don’t have the money I’m the bank by the end of the day.

VenusTiger · 28/07/2020 22:02

Are they waiting for payday @Waferbiscuit - majority of ppl get paid on last working day of the month

Iloveyoutothefridgeandback · 28/07/2020 22:02

I would be more than snippy, I would be really pissed off and let them know. How dare they?!

EustaciaPieface · 28/07/2020 22:03

Hope you get the money, they’ve been really unfair.

Scarydinosaurs · 28/07/2020 22:04

Give a date when it needs to be paid by.

You need to be direct.
