YANBU but surely your mouth will be in tatters?

I love pineapple but hate that 'fizzy' feeling I get on my tongue when I've eaten too much.

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 28/07/2020 15:32

I got indigestion just reading the OP

katy1213 · 28/07/2020 15:33

Are you watching A Suitable Boy? Someone died of a surfeit of pineapple - but is one a surfeit??
@karenovirus Pineapple is used to tenderise meat - so your son is right!

BrokenBrit · 28/07/2020 15:33

I thought I was allergic to pineapple for years as my mouth stung so much after eating them.. quite a revelation to find that this was a normal part of ingesting fresh pineapple!

I will eat a whole melon every once in a while which is probably as much sugar and I’m fine. Too delicious and sweet to stop!

GinisLife · 28/07/2020 15:48

I had to eat a jam doughnut because I read this GrinGrin

HollyBollyBooBoo · 28/07/2020 15:51

I'd enjoy it but then be high as a kite from the sugar and in pain from reflux acid!

Holothane · 28/07/2020 16:17

Well I’ve a bag of grapes for tonight at least that’s not restricted yet.

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 28/07/2020 16:22

Fruit contains natural sugars. Sugar being "bad" doesn't apply to fruit. A jam donut is void of nutrients, whereas a pineapple will have loads of nutrients and fibre, which will help keep you fuller for longer. The recommendation is two pieces of fruit a day. Aim to reach your remaining 5–10 a day with vegetables.

Costacoffeeplease · 28/07/2020 16:24

Don’t stray far from the loo for the rest of the day

Lweji · 28/07/2020 16:25

Sugar, or sucrose, is a nutrient.

MsEllany · 28/07/2020 16:25

@AfterSchoolWorry

Well no, but prepare for a carb coma!
Fucking give over! Grin

I wouldn’t because it would make my mouth sore. And it wouldn’t keep me full for long.

Cookies2523 · 28/07/2020 16:33

Good sugars are fructose - this is the sugar in fruit. Bad sugars are sucrose.

ImFree2doasiwant · 28/07/2020 16:33

I would. I got a small pineapple from M & S for 21p. It was just right so I chopped it and ate it all. There's not as much as you think once it's cored and peeled.

Fanthorpe · 28/07/2020 16:58

My dentist thinks otherwise about fruit sugar being ‘good’

There are no good and bad sugars. There are some that it’s harder for your body to access as an energy source, and some that come bundled up with other nutrients.

icedgem85 · 28/07/2020 17:18

There are over 30 teaspoons of sugar in a pineapple, so I wouldn't be making a habit of it! Not to mention the bromelain will probably tear your mouth up, so don't be surprised if you have a sore tongue and bleeding gums.

icedgem85 · 28/07/2020 17:22

Your body will use the sugar in the same way whether it's glucose or fructose and can increase your insulin resistance, resulting in very high blood sugar, unless paired with fat or protein. Since there are 30 spoonfuls of sugar in a pineapple, you wouldn't be having enough of either to balance that out. Eating fruit rather than mashing it up for smoothies is better as the sugars are released more slowly, and fruit is packed full of healthy vitamins and fibre, but in that quantity it won't do you any good, regardless what people are telling you about 'good' sugar.

IItCantRainAllTheTime · 28/07/2020 17:23

Don't. You'll get the shits. Trust me on that.

jay55 · 28/07/2020 17:26

I have a fissured tongue so it would be super painful after more than a few pieces. I admire your work.

Lilifer · 29/07/2020 12:32

GrinGrinthanks guys your responses made me laugh so much!!

I feel obliged to report back, in the interests of pineapple eating research, that there I did not suffer any ill effects from eating the whole pineapple.
No runs/bowel issues
No sore or bleeding tongue

I did have some mild cramping for a few mins but it passed, so all is well that ends well!!🤗🙌🏻

@Lilifer

Wait whoah is there a lot of sugar in pineapples?? But they're fruit???
There's lots of sugar in it, there is in most fruit. Added to which it'll be doing it's utmost to digest your stomach lining so stand by for some discomfort.
Bargebill19 · 29/07/2020 12:43

@Lilifer
Yay!!

Cookies2523 · 29/07/2020 12:49

To everyone saying that there are no good & had sugars? Tell that to my psychiatrist who I have seen on numerous occasions as I have had both bulimia & anorexia throughout my life. One of the hour sessions covered good & bad sugars. I know who I believe!

CatherinedeBourgh · 29/07/2020 12:52

On the beach in Brazil there was a guy who would come round selling pineapples. He would peel them with a machete and turn the top into a sort of handle, so you could hold it from there and eat it like an ice cream.

I would eat at least one a day. Mmm, I miss them. (And they were proper sugar bombs, not like the rubbish ones you get round here...)

Fanthorpe · 29/07/2020 14:33

Cookie I’m sorry if I posted something that went against what was said to you, of course I respect what a medic says. I hope you’re doing well.

Carolduckingbaskin · 29/07/2020 14:36

Ooof I still remember the day dh ate a whole pineapple - he really did have a dodgy stomach in the evening (think he may have also had tangerines with it).
