It's pure sugar!

SweatyBetty20 · 28/07/2020 12:47

If I did that the acid would literally peel my tongue off...

rosegoldivy · 28/07/2020 12:47

When I was pregnant pineapple was my craving in the early day.
Ad eat pineapple all day long and no harm came to me.

Go for it. Enjoy

SantaClaritaDiet · 28/07/2020 12:48

I am ordering a pineapple right now!

Fanthorpe · 28/07/2020 12:48

isnt that how things grow, convert energy from the sun/light into an ‘ose’? Slower growing stuff with tougher fibres slows down its accessibility for use by the body. Higher water content lowers the amount per gram.

Simplistic explanation I know.

Lweji · 28/07/2020 12:49

For the record, the problem with pineapples isn't the acid, but the enzyme.

pigsDOfly · 28/07/2020 12:50

Why would you do that?

Doesn't sounds like a very balanced sort of lunch tbh and probably much to much acid and sugar in one sitting for most people.

Expect your mouth to be pretty sore afterwards, and I imagine it could have quite a dramatic affect on your bowels as well.

P0lka · 28/07/2020 12:53

Out of interest, the first google result says 10g sugar per 100g pineapple, vs 13.6g sugar per 100g of a jam donut.

For the average 66g donut, that's 9g sugar. The average medium pineapple yields 5 cups, or approx 1100g - or 110g sugar. So there's your answer on that one - just eat the donut!

JammyHands · 28/07/2020 12:54

If I ate a whole pineapple I'd be very ill, there is a lot of acid in them and I can't eat more than a couple of bits without getting stomach ache.

Allfednonedead · 28/07/2020 12:54

I once ate most of a pineapple and it was a terrible mistake. Whether it was the acid or the enzyme, I felt like I had sunstroke and had to go lie down for the rest of the afternoon.
I still love pineapple, but I'm a bit more moderate in my consumption these days.

Starlightstarbright1 · 28/07/2020 12:54

My son ate a lot when he was in reception - he wasn’t much of a fruit eater so I chopped it up and said hello yourself - he ate about 3/4 of it . He spent a lot of time on the toilet then was unable to go to school the next day

Dugsbollox · 28/07/2020 12:55

Make sure you have plenty of loo roll.

SantaClaritaDiet · 28/07/2020 12:55

who cares?
A balanced diet should be seen through an entire week and a healthy attitude to food allows you to eat what you want in the context of regular balanced meals.

If you want to eat a pineapple once in a while, why wouldn't you.

Bargebill19 · 28/07/2020 12:55

No. Yadnbu. Pineapple is the best. A fresh pineapple is best eaten in one go.
I’m so jealous.

Nottherealslimshady · 28/07/2020 12:55

I think theres more sugar in a whole pineapple than a jam doughnut.

honeygirlz · 28/07/2020 12:55

I can eat a massive papaya with no issues. Although admittedly not everyday too expensive

Nottherealslimshady · 28/07/2020 12:57

In fact just googled it. Theres 10 times more sugar in a pineaple than a jam doughnut. (The doughnut obviously has more fat)

Starlight39 · 28/07/2020 13:04

YANBU but beware that your tongue might bleed Shock. I ate loads while in Thailand and my tongue bled a little bit. Apparently eating a banana can neutralise it.

YorkshirePud1 · 28/07/2020 13:13

But the sugar in say, a jam donut, is refined sugar. Naturally occurring sugars are much better for you, mainly because of the way the body breaks them down and stores them. You still need to eat them in a balanced way and in moderation, but overall you'd still get a lot more benefit from eating a whole pineapple. Not that I would personally, I love pineapple but I think a whole one would make me sick.

CarolVordermansArse · 28/07/2020 13:14

Fruit sugar is fructose, nothing wrong with it. Cutting out entire food groups is what is wrong, moderation is best rather than fads, unless you have a medical condition.

You might get a sore tongue though.

ThanksItHasPockets · 28/07/2020 13:20

Also my son says pineapples can dissolve human flesh

It’s true. They contain an enzyme called bromelain, as does papaya. You can use pineapple to tenderise meat but if you leave it on too long the meat will literally disintegrate to mush.

MadauntofA · 28/07/2020 13:21

I think one of the old tricks to start labour is to eat lots of pineapple- gets your guts moving, so I wouldn't go out for the next day or soGrin

coronaholiday · 28/07/2020 13:22

A friend of mine once lost a bet to eat a whole pineapple.

And I mean a WHOLE pineapple - leaves, prickly skin and all. Wasn't pretty.

I'm sure your experience will be much more pleasant than that - enjoy!

Chocolateandamaretto · 28/07/2020 13:24

If I ate a whole pineapple it would give me the raging shits. Stay near a loo for the foreseeable!

Happynow001 · 28/07/2020 13:31

OP

I hope your tongue, stomach and gut aren't being digested by all the enzymes (bromelain) in that pineapple!!

And yes pineapple is really high in sugar, as is that other utterly delicious fruit - the fresh, juicy mango! 😋
