Changing your first name?

Hello, bit of a weird one.

Has anyone successfully changed their first name as in people accepting it? Was it difficult? What do you think of people doing it?

I’ve had a short first name and always hated it. When I was younger I would change it to something different weekly. When I was around 18 I felt like it was holding me back in my studies so I switched it to my middle name. For the past 5 years I’ve introduced myself as my middle name but Elizabeth is long and well I hate it. I couldn’t decide on a first name and my mum was so upset that I hated it so I went with something already in my name but still didn’t work.

Now I have a daughter and filling in things and well I don’t know what to write. Or how to introduce myself to my friends kids. There is a name I Like but it’s so different from mine.

I need to be sure before changing it again but I feel weird just changing my name to something completely different? How to explain it? Has anyone done this?

Thanks

I have. Just write a deed poll and get a couple of friends to witness it. I have always disliked my previous first name. So, I changed it after the divorce - it's part of my new life. It takes a little time for old friends to get used to it but they do because they're your friends. Whenever you're ready to make the change, go for it. I have no regrets. x
