to use a potty in the park?

My 29 month old is a month into potty training. When he tells me 'weewee' I grab the potty from under the pram and let him use it. Is this ok?

I empty into a bush out of sight etc. Whole process takes about 20 seconds probably!

I've explained why I said his age in months

@Poetryinaction

OP you keep saying you are asking about etiquette. Lots of us are saying it's poor etiquette. We don't like seeing kids on potties and don't think it's necessary. I'm another who toilet trained 3 small children without carrying a potty around.
Luckily you're outnumbered

It’s really horrible when boys especially get used to just peeing wherever whenever. Potties at least don’t encourage this habit, it’s really nasty.

Temp123999 · 27/07/2020 18:08

@OhCaptain
Your children are geniuses and your the best mother in the world.
I've genuinely never heard of a child needing a potty after four weeks!
It's not about not being able to hold it for a few minutes @garfieldrec has been clear it's for days out park etc.
But go ahead and judge a toddler if it makes you feel good about yourself

kleew1 · 27/07/2020 18:09

I let my dd pee in the bushes or behind a tree... Putting me to shame with the potty

JassyRadlett · 27/07/2020 18:09

Or even met grown men who need to toilet at ten seconds notice?!

This seems to be an argument for teaching them better to hold it when they’re small, rather than encouraging on-demand weeing, tbh.

Gogogadgetarms · 27/07/2020 18:10

My son has a throne style potty that I take everywhere.
I try and be discrete when I can but if anyone takes offence at a small child doing a wee then that’s up to them.
It’s preferable to my child having an accident.

Surely whipping a potty out in the middle of a park encourages the wherever whenever attitude?

I was at the steam the other day, and it's very shallow so the kids paddle etc in jelly shoes. One little boy, maybe 4/5 pissed in the stream. Lovely!

Portable fold down potty has made potty training so much easier. We try and use it discreetly/not near people eating but quite frankly I don't give a shit what people think 😃

@OhCaptain
You're being very rude @garfieldrec. Calm down!
You're been ridiculous and judgey!

whensmynexthol1day · 27/07/2020 18:13

Toilets are closed at my park. I didn't take a potty for my two though- they just wee'd discretely in a bush! Not sure what else you're supposed to do!

Ah see, you couldn't help yourself could you? Wind your neck in you're so pathetic!

It's teaching them that there are correct places and incorrect places. Potty - yes. Someone's prize rose bush - no.

Poetryinaction · 27/07/2020 18:14

But where are you emptying the wee?

Ginfordinner · 27/07/2020 18:14

We don't like seeing kids on potties

Some overly sensitive and precious flowers on here this evening.

What, because I don’t think it’s ok that there are grown men who think it’s ok not to hold it until they can get to a loo?

I’m sorry, but thinking that’s acceptable is disgusting.

But by that your also teaching “middle of park yes” surely?

For the fifth time, chuck in bush and wipe down with a biodegradable dettol wipe

(In the absence of medical conditions obviously - but in those cases it still isn’t reasonable to take an ‘any where, any time’ approach.)

Poetryinaction · 27/07/2020 18:17

The rosebush comment makes no sense. Children learn to hold it or have an accident. Or wee behind the same bush you are chucking your full potty of wee into, if it's an emergency.

Thisismytimetoshine · 27/07/2020 18:18

If they can't hold on until they get to a toilet, they need to be in pull-ups. You wouldn't stick a potty in the middle of Mark's and Spencer's instead of taking him to the toilet, would you?

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 27/07/2020 18:18

Ftlog, it's fine for young children to wee behind a tree when there are no toilets near by! Mine was once desperate for a poo and he pooed into a nappy sack behind a tree (obviously a big one off!

Rover83 · 27/07/2020 18:18

Our village playground is a 20-30 min walk from our house and has no toilet. My DDs are 3 and 4 if they need a wee then they need a wee I wouldn't attempt to force them to hold it for a 30 min walk home. I don't take a potty out they just find a bush or a hidden tree and wee. If you prefer him to wee on a potty just find a corner away from people and its fine. Before reading properly I thought you were asking if it's ok for you to use the potty Grin

Ok then, someone's fence or entrance gate or someone's car
