Obviously due to how the world is atm I’ve been at home with my 2 youngest DC (10 & 12) for the last 16 weeks.
They’ve been so good, they’ve got on with homework and helped around the house. They’ve had the odd argument, as siblings do but nothing too major. DD was in a strop a few days ago and I said “Thank god you’re going to your dads for a week on Sunday...” nothing more was said, no big deal.
Their dad came to pick them up this evening and as she left she gave me a kiss and said “hope you have a nice week without us mum”
I don’t know whether she meant it in a nice way or whether she was referring back to what I’d said. Now I feel awful as they’re such good kids 😢

I miss them already 😩

She probably said it in a nice way. Both of your kids are old enough to know how stressful.lockdown is

I think she meant it in a nice way. Don't beat yourself up!

I hope so! I’d hate for them to think I’m genuinely happy to not have them with me for a week. It’s only been 3 hours and I already miss the constant minecraft updates...!

Mmm, if your DC have phones I would definitely text them both and say that you hope they have a wonderful time but that you are already missing them. When they return I would have a proper talk with your DD and explain that you shouldn't have said what you did and that you didn't mean it.

Don't ignore it just in case it did hurt. It's amazing how you can remember something years later if you found it particularly hurtful. I can remember a couple of things my mum said which were probably born of frustration with me which, because I was a child, made me question whether she really loved me.

To be honest I remember a few things my mum said to me when I was young that stung too. One was about my arse in a pair of jeans Hmm but yes a little text would probably be a good idea, and don’t beat yourself up honestly she probably thought nothing of it !!
