This is (as sold) just not eating breakfast and not snacking after dinner, right?

OP posts:
PatsyDahling · 26/07/2020 19:46

From what I understand it's eating within an 8 hour window per day. So yes could mean missing breakfast and eating late morning/lunchtime until around 7 or 8pm. Whatever works for you.

BarbaraofSeville · 26/07/2020 19:46

Sounds like it. A colleague once told me about it with a great, long winded explanation of how it works, how great it is, to which I concluded that yes, it's just not having any breakfast, eating 2 meals a day instead of 3.

SauvignonBlanketyBlank · 26/07/2020 19:47

I eat between 11am and 7pm combined with calorie counting.Ive lost a stone in 9 weeks.

SauvignonBlanketyBlank · 26/07/2020 19:48

1200 calories per day eating every 2 hours or so

Lovewithalampost · 26/07/2020 19:50

I fast from 6pm to 10am. I eat 3 meals a day - breakfast lunch and dinner. No snacks and I eat mainly low carb meals. I’ve lost 16lbs since the 8th June.

WhenSheWasBad · 26/07/2020 19:50

Pretty much. I’m trying it at the moment.

It’s sort of working but I’ve found I am more than capable of eating a shit load of food in quite a small amount of time.

Lovewithalampost · 26/07/2020 19:52

You can eat breakfast on it! I eat breakfast at 10am, lunch at 1.30pm and dinner around 5.45pm

Rosieposy4 · 26/07/2020 19:53

Not working at all for me. Not eating from 8 pm until at least 12 noon, usually 1 pm. Then only 2 meals with the occasional snack banana mid afternoon..
At least it is good for preventing insulin resistance.

Alloverthegrapevine · 26/07/2020 19:56

I'm just starting out because I realised I can quite easily have breakfast at 11am and dinner at 6:30pm. I don't really need to lose more than 3-4 lbs but I'm ready and waiting for the improved health and energy levels Grin

LizzieBennett70 · 26/07/2020 20:00

I'm T2 diabetic and it works really well for me.

I'm a bit of a weirdo in that I love breakfast foods so I have two small breakfasts (1st one like greek yogurt and berries, 2nd one toasted Vogel bread with peanut butter) and then a light main meal. I try not to be too carb heavy, and I can usually lose 2-3 lbs a week without any stress.

Suze1621 · 26/07/2020 20:03

I did eat breakfast but made sure all meals, including breakfast, were eaten within 8 hour period and no snacks outside this. Lost 2 stone in 2018 following this pattern of eating and have maintained this lower weight since. I have used 16.8 for a couple of weeks on a couple of occasion since - after Christmas and again after a holiday last year when I felt I had over indulged. I don't think there is any magic here, just more thought into what I ate when and no late evening snacking. I do also exercise 3 or 4 times a week, but have done so for several years.

piscean10 · 26/07/2020 20:29

I tried it but I had the most intense headaches and gave up after 10 days. I did it for the health energy levels and not to lose weight.

Charleyhorses · 26/07/2020 20:35

I'm doing Michael Mosley fast 800. This includes 16/8. I've lost a stone in a month but have stuck to it completely. I never lost more than a LB a week on any other diet.

WineAndTiramisu · 26/07/2020 20:43

I usually fast between 1230-2030, sometimes do a longer fast (usually when busy at work!), Lost about 7lb so far, and do feel more energetic when I do the longer fasts

Shedtheload · 26/07/2020 21:06

It works! You don’t just have to eat 2 meals and skip breakfast, you just delay your first meal a bit. I eat breakfast at 10.30, lunch at 1.30, snack at 3 and dinner at 6. Have lost over 2 stone in 3 months eating like this and I eat at least 1700 calories a day too- no 1200 cal diets for me.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 26/07/2020 21:15

I don't eat breakfast. So I usually eat lunch or brunch at 1pm (when I finish work) and 7.30 - 8pm. I never snack in the evening, never. I never eat a single thing after dinner it's just not a thing in my world. I don't have a sweet tooth so am never tempted by food or drink after dinner.

OP posts:
Chicchicchicchiclana · 26/07/2020 21:16

sorry that should say dinner at 7.30 - 8.00pm.

OP posts:
Shedtheload · 26/07/2020 21:18

Well congrats, you’re doing 16/8. Nobody said it was intricate or complex - it literally is eating between certain times but not restricted to a certain number of meals. Having the set time window is helpful for those of us who don’t find it easy not to snack after dinner. It’s good that you naturally eat like that though.

chloechloe · 26/07/2020 21:20

It’s better to break your fast earlier in the day rather than later, as the body’s insulin response is better. So you’d be better off eating from, say 9am to 5pm rather than noon to 8pm.

Jayaywhynot · 26/07/2020 21:40

I fast 3 days a week.
Start at 9pm, only drink plenty of water, black coffee or green tea and I finish between 1 & 2pm the next day, break the fast with a small healthy meal, like 2 scrambled eggs and one slice of wholemeal toast. Dont dive into the biscuit tin!
No juice, squash, milk, fizzy pop or anything with sweetener while fasting, I dont even chew gum.
Helps me lose weight and I feel healthier but if you start to feel faint or sick you need to eat something.
If you start at 9pm or earlier you sleep away a big chunk of your fast
Google intermittent fasting, interesting stuff

Chicchicchicchiclana · 26/07/2020 23:06

Two contradictory posts following each other.

I find it interesting that this now seems to be seen as a sort of holy grail as this is my normal pattern of eating and has been for most of my life. And yet I'm still bmi 29, size 16, got at least 2 stone to lose.

OP posts:
AnneLovesGilbert · 27/07/2020 00:17

There is no holy grail. Different things work for different people. If you want to learn more about the science behind it you could google it.

Waveysnail · 27/07/2020 00:28

Iv been following it as part of fast 800 ish. I eat within 8 hours and on non fast days eat max 1300 calories. They also reccomend limited starchy carbs and high protein.

TimeWastingButFun · 27/07/2020 00:37

I've been eating between 1.00 pm and 9.00 pm, and making my portion sizes smaller, too. No snacking (that's a bit difficult!)

Obviously it depends on what you eat during these hours. If you’re expending less energy than you take in you will be overweight. I don’t think it’s necessarily a holy grail but it is backed up by scientific research that says it has a positive effect on blood sugar.
