Holiday lost £1000

coffeandteav · 26/07/2020 18:11

Had flights booked with Ryanair to Portugal. Have just found out the insurance doesn't cover pandemics.

Booked pre covid but looks like will lose the money. It's £1000.
AIBU to be absolutely gutted?

Anyone else lost out?

I keep hoping the flight will be cancelled but the same flight hasn't up to now and has mainly left on time. So very unlikely.

Will RyanAir also not give vouchers?

Frazzled2207 · 26/07/2020 20:51

You should be able to change to a different destination with ryanair- have also noticed that Lisbon is not available beyond March but many destinations are

Not if the flight is flying still.

I asked on chat they said that only dates can be changed not destinations.

DS was booked on a scout trip to Croatia end August, flights are going, accommodation and adventure centre all open and looking forward to their arrival.

Scout association have blocked all trips to October. Insurance doesn’t cover as everything open for business.

Scouts have moved to new date next August that DS can’t make. Therefore we lose £850 Angry

Weallfloatdownhere · 26/07/2020 21:01

@AuditAngel

I’m supposed to be travelling to Spain on Friday, about £1,000 on flights. I was taking my nephew out, and SIL and BIL were bringing DD1 back.

I won’t go due to FCO guidance, EasyJet aren’t cancelling (yet), SIL wants to take nephew, so doesn’t want me to cancel nephew’s flight as now twice the cost. It’s going to be tricky to unwind. DH and BIL can’t go as can’t take time off for quarantine.

SIL coulD argue necessity of trip as owns tenanted property and Her daughter is already in Spain.

That’s strange that they haven’t cancelled. I was meant to be flying with EasyJet to Spain next weekend. EasyJet cancelled the holiday last night and I’ve been promised a full refund. Perhaps they are only cancelling packages not flights-only but that wouldn’t make much sense really 🧐
Socialdistancing · 26/07/2020 21:06

So rubbish Sad. We should have been in Spain this week (Booked last year) but didn’t feel comfortable so ‘wasted’ over £300 changing our flights to next year. but I’m glad we did now as would have been a nightmare to be caught up in fco panic and quarantine palaver

daisymay133 · 26/07/2020 21:07

Yes easyJet only cancelling packages as in their holiday guarantee

Shame one of you hasn’t pulled their back so can’t travel 🤔😉

Weallfloatdownhere · 26/07/2020 21:09

Wow I didn’t know it applies only to packages. That’s so illogical: if the FCO says not to go, they should cancel and refund all flights! That totally sucks
Vinoonasunnyday · 26/07/2020 21:10

EasyJet had it in their policy for holidays to cancel if they had to isolate either side

I presume it wasn’t part of the flights and I’m guessing the fco advice wasn’t actually the issue

GiraffesAreBeautiful · 26/07/2020 22:01

Get yourself a legal letter to carrier. Travel to Portugal is not essential if it’s a holiday. Have you checked with your insurance company also? Are they happy to pay out if you get Doubt it.

Dollykitten · 26/07/2020 22:13

I booked with Ryanair toMajorca on Aug 3rd. I felt quite confident doing so as they gave an option to change if our situation changed. Now we have to quarantine we decided to cancel- thought we could book something for later in the year. What an utter palaver! Couldn’t get through on the phone but finally got to Live chat. We could rebook to a different country but in order to avoid paying a fee we have to do it within one week of our original flight.DH goes online to manage my booking and hey presto we are now going to Copenhagen in September! No idea how this change happened, nothing against Denmark but have no intention of going! Will try to get up at daft o clock to call them to see if I can salvage anything but will never use them again! Cowboys!!

somthinginthewoodshed · 26/07/2020 22:45

Thanks AlwaysIP, I have taken my case to the bank as did pay with a credit card. Am hoping I will get something back and am not giving up without a fight. I have also sent in claim to insurance company despite them previously telling me the pandemic isn’t covered. 🤞🤞🤞

Rumbletumbleinmytummy · 26/07/2020 22:51

Ryanair are letting many of their customers change their bookings at the moment for free... have you checked your booking in the past few days?
Mines saying I can cancel.

I empathise. We paid £1900 to go to Florida for a week in October. Our flight has been cancelled, but the operator wont speak with us, and neither will the airline cos they say I have to go through the operator.

It's an absolute shit show all round at the moment

Flowers009 · 26/07/2020 23:37

Your choice not to go so you lose out

coffeandteav · 27/07/2020 09:32

Even if FCO say no finding it hard to get insurance for even theft?
OP posts:
rookiemere · 27/07/2020 09:58

I don't get @Flowers009 remark either OP. It's hardly your choice if FCO guidance is to avoid all but essential travel Confused.

I think posters are getting confused with other poster who has trip planned to Italy which is a different scenario.

Ladylimpet · 27/07/2020 09:58

Did you take out insurance before the covid-19 issue in March? We booked to go to Lisbon in September in March. Our insurance cover covers a lot of scenarios due to the pandemic. I would have thought, given the FCO current advice that you are definitely covered?

Ladylimpet · 27/07/2020 09:59

Not the ops choice not to go.. it's the government saying avoid going!

GabsAlot · 27/07/2020 10:22

lisbon isnt on the approved list so i think op has the right for a chargeback

try insurance first then your card company

ThedietstartsonMonday · 27/07/2020 10:24

I had an email the other day that Jet2 now do an insurance policy which covers COVID-19. I did a quote for myself, DH and DD and it was £99.00.
Maybe take a look and she if you can take out a policy with someone who does cover for Covid if you still want to go?

Vinoonasunnyday · 27/07/2020 10:27

Use southdowns

They do Covid cover and I only paid £18 for five days

Vinoonasunnyday · 27/07/2020 10:27

Martin Lewis recommended them

totallyyesno · 27/07/2020 10:33

I agree that the Portugal trip should be refunded - although I expect the flights will be cancelled closer to the date - when are you booked for OP?

As for the Italian trip - you are basically just changing your mind. I understand why you don't want to travel but the flights are going, the accommodation is open so I think a refund is pretty unlikely.

Coffeeandteav · 27/07/2020 10:38

We we due to go on the 8th the flights have been going currently,it left on time this morning.

I don't still want to go if not fco approved.
