To think I am not overweight?

orangegerbil · 26/07/2020 07:51

According to BMI, I am overweight with a reading over 27. I am 5'3 and weigh almost 11 stone. I haven't weighed myself in years so I am a little shocked.

I could do with losing a bit around my tummy, but I am a size 10 so I can't be that bad surely? I do have quite a big chest but that can't be the only reason for my weight.

The NHS uses BMI calculators so I am slightly concerned about it as it must be a trusted way of measuring things. Is it possible to have a high BMI but not be overweight?

YellowRosesX · 26/07/2020 13:40

Yep, 5’4! @PurpleDaisies

Skyliner001 · 26/07/2020 13:41

@YellowRosesX

This post has made me want to see what different sizes look like! How much would you guess I weigh/what size in this photo?

PalmTreesPurple stop spreading harmful misinformation. BMI isn't crap, it's a reliable health indicator for the vast majority of women, certainly one of medium height and body fat % as the OP is.

IseeIsee · 26/07/2020 13:43

@YellowRosesX 5 ft 2" and 11ish stone. 12 top. 14 bottom.

YellowRosesX · 26/07/2020 13:43

Ok, here’s another

Josette77 · 26/07/2020 13:44

At 5"4 I'm guessing 14-16. Honestly the pose is very Instagram. Can you post a head on shot?

tootiredtospeak · 26/07/2020 13:45

Size 10 in what shops. I am a 5'3 and 11stone 1 and am a 14 in most shops. Apple shaped so all belly boobs and upper arms. Could do with losing half a stone but probably wouldnt go below that as 43 now and decent weight loss would just make me look older. Need to overhaul my diet and do more exercise though. I dont consider myself overweight but the official statistics do my BMI is 28.

Josette77 · 26/07/2020 13:45

Size 14

WorraLiberty · 26/07/2020 13:46

Yellow, no-one's going to be able to guess your weight while you have clothes on.

And regarding your clothes size, that'll totally depend on where you buy them.

YellowRosesX · 26/07/2020 13:46

Size 10 top, 12 bottom! @Josette77

YellowRosesX · 26/07/2020 13:47

So many people have asked the OP to post a photo of themselves so they can see. I thought I’d post one as I’m the same height/weight as OP. But now with a picture you can’t tell correctly? I’m obviously not going to post one in my underwear haha!

YellowRosesX · 26/07/2020 13:48

@WorraLiberty Topshop, Boohoo and Missguided.

PersonaNonGarter · 26/07/2020 13:48

I’ll try Yellow - 11st2lbs

YellowRosesX · 26/07/2020 13:49

About that yes! @PersonaNonGarter

PurpleDaisies · 26/07/2020 13:50

Well, the thread is all about you now @YellowRosesX

WorraLiberty · 26/07/2020 13:50
@WorraLiberty Topshop, Boohoo and Missguided.
But how many people on this thread will actually shop there, to know what their sizes are like?

Labels really do mean nothing if you see what I mean.

Either way, you have a cracking figure.

yearinyearout · 26/07/2020 13:51

I definitely think people can have heavier bones than others 😂 A fit well toned person of 5"3 can weigh 11 stone and be a size 10-12. I've gained weight over lockdown and am around 12 stone now, I'm still wearing size 12 jeans (they are a little snug, admittedly!)

YellowRosesX · 26/07/2020 13:52

Thanks! @WorraLiberty

And @PurpleDaisies, I only posted because I’m the same height and weight as OP and she hasn’t shared a picture. No need to get catty.

Fressia123 · 26/07/2020 13:53

@YellowRosesX you look like a size 12-14 with a flat stomach.

Shadowboy · 26/07/2020 13:55

I’m 5’3 and 9 stone and size 8 I think I’d be overweight at 11 stone- I’m probably carrying a little more than I need at my current weight

bibbitybobbitycats · 26/07/2020 13:56

YellowRosesX do you work out? You look quite toned.

YellowRosesX · 26/07/2020 13:57

No, never! I have absolutely no muscle haha. I’ve always been smaller on top, even if I gain weight I still stay small on top and get big on the bottom. My legs do get really big though when I gain weight.

Noconceptofnormal · 26/07/2020 13:59

I'm 5'1" and weigh 9 stone 9 lbs, I am 9 months post partum and trying to get down 8.5 stone which was my prepregnancy weight and hopefully where all my old clothes will fit again.

Apparently according to the NHS website to be 'normal' rather than 'overweight' I need to be 9 stone 6 so I will feel ice achieved something when I get down to that weight.

Unfortunately I do think the OP is a little bit overweight, as I am, but she's lucky that she'd not have to lose much to get down to a healthier weight.
