Does anyone else hate putting their hood up?

Took DS for a walk earlier in what can only be described as ‘adverse weather’. Raincoats, waterproof trousers, wellies etc. necessary.

I remembered after about 5 seconds that I HATE wearing my hood up. I can’t hear or see properly and it makes me feel really unusual and stressed. I’ve never liked it, it’s not just this raincoat! As per usual, I ended up just getting my hair wet.

AIBU to hate it? Do other people actually not mind or do they just put up with it?

I hate hoods beacause they never cover my head properly! Unless my hairs down but then it's just annoying to tuck it all in! And then your hood blows down anyway
Maybe they should start making oversized hoods so women can actually put their hood up and it cover their actual head!
When I wear my partner's hood it's so much better even with a top knot!

The80sweregreat · 25/07/2020 20:04

I hate it too! 😀

Papergirl1968 · 25/07/2020 20:32

And me. I can’t see or hear properly too and they blow down.

Gatehouse77 · 25/07/2020 20:36

Same here so I'm an umbrella person.
However, if it was a hood with a baseball cap within it to keep it on my head and provide a peak to keep rain off my glasses then I'd be sorely tempted. Just need someone in the industry to make my idea happen!

mimbleandlittlemy · 25/07/2020 20:37

Would rather have wet hair. Hate hoods.

feesh · 25/07/2020 20:37

I had mine up for all of two minutes today, and then I just gave up and let my hair get wet. Hair dries, so it’s not the end of the world if it gets wet.

HeyMicky · 25/07/2020 20:39

I hate hoods as well. Tunnel vision and the noise of rain smattering on my head. Umbrella or wet head are infinitely preferable

RedCatBlueCat · 25/07/2020 20:42

Hate them.
Can just about cope with a woolly hat in winter, but hate sun hats and hoods - they are so uncomfortable. And hoods restrict your vision and hearing.

slipperywhensparticus · 25/07/2020 20:42

I hate hoods umbrella all the way

1Morewineplease · 25/07/2020 20:42

Im with you OP.
I end up feeling uneasy about someone being behind me as well as struggling to hear .

ErrolTheDragon · 25/07/2020 20:43

A proper wired hood on a walking coat is good.

WhisperingJesse · 25/07/2020 20:43

I'm definitely in this group. Almost never have my hood up.

Alloverthegrapevine · 25/07/2020 20:47

A good hood is the best, a bad one is the worst.

The single most important thing when buying a "proper" coat is to try the hood on. A good one that fits properly will stay up and allow you to move your head easily whilst maintaining full vision. Even better if it has a peak to keep the rain off your face.

A good waterproof coat is a game changer, so many more possibilities in life and hands free with no need for an umbrella but it's amazing how many people buy a coat without trying on the hood.

LyndaSnellsSniff · 25/07/2020 20:50

I hate them because I look and feel like a prat. Especially if I’ve also got my glasses on. 🤓

PulpHorn · 25/07/2020 20:53

I hate them too, can't see peripherally or hear. My good oversized hood blows down. Actually tempted to get a granny style rain cap that fit in my pocket Grin

CasuallyFeminine · 25/07/2020 20:53

I hate it too. I always try it and think it will feel ok, but it feels so strange so I just get my hair wet instead. The lack of peripheral vision bothers me in particular.

Alloverthegrapevine · 25/07/2020 20:55

No No No, an oversized hood is no use to anyone, of course it blows down. It needs to fit

Wheresthebiffer2 · 25/07/2020 20:56

Too windy for umbrellas here. I usually wear a beanie hat as well as trying to put the hood up, so that at least my head stays sort of dry if it is so windy that the hood blows down.

Alloverthegrapevine · 25/07/2020 20:56

If it fits, you still have your peripheral vision too.

Manolin · 25/07/2020 20:57

The worst thing about hoods is the inability to hear timber wolves running up behind you until it is too late.

LyndaSnellsSniff · 25/07/2020 21:09

@Manolin 🤣
