i grew up thinking that only chimneys, gas boilers or flues fumed. Now it appears that a lot of MN participants fume too.

I think it's one of those ads that's designed to be irritating so people talk about it

Perf "eh/er" sound like the start of elephant

Surf "uh" sound, much more guttural, turf, ugly, etc

They are completely different vowels and totally different sounds. Or they should be.

I've no doubt she's playing a character in the ad, and admit that some of my language was not necessary... BUT IT'S SUCH AN ANNOYING CHARACTER! Aargh.

I think she’s clearly taking the pee in that advert, especially with the lobster claw. Surely people don’t take that advert seriously?

I have only heard this perf with surf adverts on radio
They do make me smile sometimes
As far as I was aware perf does rhyme with surf though - probably why I do not mind it so much!
Maybe the tv advert is more annoying

No you don't have to like everyone but it not a very nice thread. You've basically ripped this person to shreds calling her a bint and what not when you have idea what she is like in real life.

You don't have to like her performances, but there's no need to be so derogatory about her.

She's no better or worse than than other equivalent reality stars. But actually she is a bit better because she hasn't ruined her face and over sexualised herself. So she's going to be limited on what she is offered, because she isn't a great actress, nice enough though. If her Dad does more directing and independent film stuff, she might do that. She's worth about £1 million now, but that doesn't go far London ways.

Perf and surf do rhyme and I can't think of a way to say either without rhyming.

Having said that, I always think she is saying perve with surf.

I quite like the Old Spice ad though.
The random "I'm on a horse" at the end did make me laugh.

Perf = the 'e' sounds like 'eh'

Surf - the 'ur' sounds like 'uhrr'

I think she's definitely acting daft for a laugh but my God it is an annoying ad.
