Do you think the police acted appropriately given that they had a tip off that a boy was waving a gun around.

What are you talking about

Pertella · 24/07/2020 22:48

@AnyFucker

What are you talking about
This i guess

Crankley · 24/07/2020 22:49

Of course they did. What else do you expect them to do to someone with a gun, regardless of age?

DeltaAlphaDelta · 24/07/2020 22:50

The police had a report that someone was seen in a house with a gun. The Police responded entirely appropriately, especially given the gun looked so realistic.

If the Police had done nothing, they would have been criticised too.

Absolute non issue as far as the Police response is concerned in my book.

shinyredbus · 24/07/2020 22:51

Of course they did the right thing - what did you expect them to do? Forget about it becasue of his age? And if he shot someone? Then what?

2155User · 24/07/2020 22:51

Absolutely

piscean10 · 24/07/2020 22:52

Yes off course. Do you think because hes a wee little boy hes untouchable?

Pixxie7 · 24/07/2020 22:53

I totally agree and was appalled at the mother when she was asked about him having a gun, that the government should ban them then.

When I was pregnant the police stopped me and DSS who was 11 and carrying a bright blue plastic gun as someone reported him for pointing it at shop windows, the police officers seemed awkward but wouldn’t allow us to leave with the cheap Poundland toy unless getting in a car and heading home. i.e no more walking or getting on public transport with it

EnoughAlready2020 · 24/07/2020 22:55

Absolutely not. It's disgusting behaviour from the police and it absolutely wouldn't have happened if he was a 12 year old white boy. They used guns with lasers.

I can't believe how frightened he and his mum must have been. The only thing that kid has learned is to be afraid of the police. As his mum said, if playing with a toy gun is an offence then make it law. But what really is the law of the land is that it's only BLACK kids that can't play with toy guns.

D4rwin · 24/07/2020 22:55

Probably. A friend caused the armed police to be called out when he was practicing with a sword in his garden. He is a stage performer and martial artist and found himself in his own garden with a gun pointing at him. He was an adult at the time. He wasn't arrested but he did get "asked" to go to the station. Even though the sword was relatively blunt and he was in his own garden etc. I guess it might have been different if they arrived later and wanted to search for a weapon.

EnoughAlready2020 · 24/07/2020 22:56

He was at his own home and it was a TOY GUN!

What kind of garden was it? Front/back/enclosed?
nancy75 · 24/07/2020 22:58

Pretty poor reporting on this, a toy gun is easy to distinguish from a real gun, from what I’ve seen the gun was a replica rather than a toy.
Given that they live in London in an area where knife & gun crime is a huge issue amongst teens I think it’s pretty crap parenting to let a child own such a thing.

GreekOddess · 24/07/2020 22:58

I was shocked by the actions of the police but it would appear I'm in the minority.

The met have released an apology and promised an investigation etc etc. Heard it all before ☹️

Pixxie7 · 24/07/2020 22:59

Yes it was a toy gun but if you look at it from a distance it did look real.

Age of criminal responsibility in this country is ten, the police don't create the law they simply enforce it

BananaPop2020 · 24/07/2020 23:00

BB guns are often impossible to tell from the real deal. Perhaps people should think about that rather than try to turn this post into a racial debate.

AuntyPasta · 24/07/2020 23:00

In the US that child may well have have been shot by the police like this 12 year old boy was

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shooting_of_Tamir_Rice

Toy guns that look like they could be real guns shouldn’t be anywhere near children.

Starlightstarbright1 · 24/07/2020 23:02

Reality is a gun was reported . They aren’t going to wonder in and have a chat .

I really believe any pretend gun should look unrealistic.

lozengeoflove · 24/07/2020 23:03

Read ‘Ghost Boys’.

june2007 · 24/07/2020 23:04

I saw a picture of the gun and if some saw that from the window you wouldn,t know if it was real or not. Also BB guns can hurt people and animals. They thought there was a gun in the house, (they may not have known the child was 12.) Yes i think it sounded heavy handed response but if they thought someone was aiming a real gun at the public then thats whats going to happen.

nancy75 · 24/07/2020 23:08

Interested to hear what people think the police should have done once they had a report of someone with a gun called in?

PinkyBrain · 24/07/2020 23:11

As if the police can afford to take any chances when reports come in of someone sighted a gun, come on! Hmm
