Motorbikes outside my house ALL DAY LONG

I've been working from home during lockdown. My house is on a very quiet dead-end road. The houses here don't have front gardens, just a narrow pavement, so my living room window opens onto the road.

For the last two weeks, two men who must live somewhere at the very end of the road have been riding bikes/mopeds up and down the road every twenty minutes or so, revving loudly all the way. This goes on from around 9am til 8pm. They're not wearing helmets, and don't seem to actually go anywhere.

It's annoying the crap out of me! Someone talk me out of laying a string of nails outside!

This is antisocial behaviour and you can report it.

That would make me so stressed!

Have you talked to neighbours about it?

FlamingoAndJohn · 23/07/2020 18:26

If they aren’t wearing helmets I’d be inclined to report. I wonder if they have tax and MOT too.

caramac04 · 23/07/2020 18:26

Report this to the police. I’m guessing they have no insurance and quite likely the bikes are not road legal.
If they cause an injury to someone, or themselves, no insurance means no payout for injuries.
It’s not acceptable and the police will respond.

Thanks for making me feel like I'm not being unreasonable.

The noise of it really puts me on edge- I can hear them coming, and then the noise as they actually drive past my house is deafening, plus the horrible exhaust smell. I've been keeping my windows closed whenever possible, but it's been too warm over the last few days.

Those saying to report, would it be logged on 101?

Two quieter riders just went by, but they had helmets on and looked like young teens. I wonder if I should try and watch/ log it more formally before doing anything else.

If it's annoying you then you can guarantee you're not alone. You say it's a dead end so are the bikes turning round near you and going back down the road? There's a one way system, small country district, near me where this has been a problem during lockdown. Can you record it on CCTV to prove the annoyance? It's also potentially dangerous if someone were to step out. I'd sound out your neighbours also. Then list the no of times it's happening and report it to both the police and the EHO at your LA.

labyrinthloafer · 23/07/2020 18:35

If they do it all day, I would wait til they start then report after about an hour. Hopefully someone will come. Do they have plates on the bikes? If so you can check those online to see if taxed.

But I would prioritise not being seen by them! You can ask 101 to not leave details when you report if you wish.

bet you any money they are off road bikes too and as such not road legal and also not insured - report to Police on ASB and leave them to it

bitofawimpreally · 23/07/2020 18:49

@Felifox, it's a bit of a strange configuration. My house is closest to the access road. They seem to come from a dog-legged dead end that runs around the side and down the back of our house, and then curves around to a carpark around 30 houses away, out of sight.

They're definitely going out onto the access road after going past my house, and then it sounds like they're driving around the local roads which form a triangle around my street, before returning.

I wondered if they were Deliveroo drivers or something, but don't ever seem to be wearing uniforms. Drug runners???! Shock

I live in a quiet stretch of road which attracts people who want to do odd things like roaring up and down on motorbikes or skateboards or on bicycles doing turns and what not. I go out and tell them to be on their bikes! Generally it works.
Without any visible resistance people will keep on doing things you don't want them to do.

We had someone on our estate who had some sort of noisy motorbike (which wasn't a road bike) which he rode around the street (and through the footpath) at random times of the day and evening. He even had pillion passengers on it and at one point a young child. No one had helmets on and he clearly wasn't taxed and insured as it wasn't a road bike. I even passed him one day going to the village shop half a mile away on it. A quick call to 101 by a couple of residents soon got him a visit from the police which stopped it. Definitely worth a call to 101 when it starts up so they can catch them at it.

FlamingoAndJohn · 23/07/2020 19:59

If they are making that much noise I’m willing to bet they have illegal exhausts. Think 101 might well be interested in it.
