"Your ASDA driver Kevin is on his way"

MahMahMahMahCorona · 23/07/2020 17:19

I'm distraught. I think it's just generic. I thought it was actually the name of the delivery driver, but today it wasn't Kevin from a few weeks back. It was a different chap. And he wasn't called Kevin.

So now I don't think "Your ASDA driver John / Gareth / Stephen / Richard is on the way" were actually called any of those names.

I'm really disappointed! Is it just a generic text generated from the depot?!

@maddiemookins16mum

I’m devastated. I often get Liam and Stephen. However I had a Lauren 2 weeks ago, she was lovely.
But are they the same Liam and Stephen?? I presume not if you are devastated? Now I'm all of a quandary....

Turkay once delivered my Christmas order from Ocado...

Justajot · 24/07/2020 00:33

Our most interesting Ocado driver name recently was Adrian-Cristian in the Raspberry van. We've also had a Norbert recently, I don't think I've met anyone called Norbert before.

Ocado send the name, van fruit/veg and the registration number. I've always assumed that this was so that you could avoid imposters. So a more diligent customer might clock the lemon van, ask for the drivers name, but then spot that the can was VF58 FGH instead of VF58 HGF and turn away the evil imposter.

The obvious stumbling blocks are:

  • how would an imposter know you had a slot booked?
  • why would an imposter go to the trouble of creating a fake ocado van?
  • why would an imposter want to deliver groceries?
  • what would the most ludicrous imposter fruit or vegetable image be? Maybe Jerusalem artichoke van?
User478 · 24/07/2020 00:45

We had to request any van except the red onion one as it made the dog go berserk. The nice lady (name unknown -or at least unremembered) was very helpful and made a note on our account.

Danglingmod · 24/07/2020 00:45

I just scrolled back through my Ocado texts... Back in April I had Jose in the Cabbage Van and I didn't even notice! Do you think he was Jesus' brother? Shock

penelopeplums · 24/07/2020 00:47

We get deliveries from Dpd by Rajinder, he delivers our Hello Fresh order. He's a master of disguise as he can do a great Welsh, Liverpudlian and Brummie accent as well as his usual accent.

penelopeplums · 24/07/2020 00:49

We've also had a Norbert recently, I don't think I've met anyone called Norbert before.

Times must be hard for the French road freight industry if the Dentressangles are now driving kimchi lorries for Ocado.

Mothership4two · 24/07/2020 01:07

I have an ASDA delivery coming tomorrow, so will wait and see if it's a Kevin. However, once I had the unusual name Steyn, so I imagine they do try to use their real names. Maybe Kevin swapped or was ill that day.

Do you ask your delivery drivers their names OP?

melj1213 · 24/07/2020 01:56

I work for ASDA and it is usually the actual name of the driver that is on the texts unless:

The driver has a different name on the system to the one they use (EG their legal name is Alex James Smith but they go by James, but the system generates default logins based on legal names;

The driver has requested their name isn't used on the system;

There's a glitch in the system;

There is a problem with their login so someone else has logged into their handheld;

They're a new driver who doesn't have a login yet, or a former Home Shopping driver who now works in store who is helping out because they're short handed and so doesnt have their own login;

There has been an issue and someone has had to take over another drivers route mid shift eg if Driver A has to go home early, B will take over his route (as it is out of town and will take 3+hrs) and C will take over Bs shorter local route (as they only have a couple of hours left of their shift);

Basically the name is the driver's name unless there is some sort of issue.

I always have the same DPD delivery driver called Adam. Adam is well fit and obviously works out. When the weather is nice he wears a short sleeve T-shirt and I gaze lasciviously at his biceps. DH has no idea why I’m so keen to answer the door when we’re expecting a parcel. I’m now wondering if perhaps Adam is just a generic name that the automated system sends out and perhaps he’s actually a Kevin!

MoreRainbowsPlease · 24/07/2020 02:36

Several years after the Jesus in the cabbage van thread, I also had an Ocado delivery from a Jesus in the lemon van. He was spanish. All I could think of was the mumsnet thread (and how good looking he was).

FrustratedMess · 24/07/2020 02:37

I actually miss talking to the Tesco delivery guys in the kitchen, We normally have the same few, and tip fairly well, we offer them a drink, One always accepts a coffee in his own takeaway cup....
Pre covid we would always have about 200 items a week, so there help was much appreciated

Zoflorabore · 24/07/2020 02:40

My ex sil worked for Sayers the bakers when I first met her. It was 1998 and she was 18.

The first time I went in her particular shop in the city centre I couldn’t stop laughing as instead of her name tag being “Lynsey” it was in fact “Doreen” and she had to wear it until she left a year or so later, she had no idea why and just got on with it.

OobleFloobleBooble · 24/07/2020 03:06

We have Saj here and he is lovely, he never gets annoyed when it takes me a few moments to get to the door (EBF DD) as when I first bought her home, he got impatient and knocked loads. When I answered the door all flustered he said "oh I had no idea you had a baby, I'm so sorry! Congratulations".
At the weekend we have Stephan and Stephan is very grumpy and I've never seen him smile. More recently, he has started wearing a mask and chucks the parcel at the door and appears to run away, I have no contact with him at all. The Hermes courier is always the same woman, but her name does change on the email. It's definitely been Sandra, Louise and Michelle but it's always the same woman so I'm not actually sure what her name is Grin

Gingerkittykat · 24/07/2020 03:17

My free Royal Canin kitten pack was delivered yesterday by Kerr, he had long greasy blonde hair and had dumped the parcel on the doorstep and was retreating down the path by the time I got to the door.

Gingerkittykat · 24/07/2020 03:21

I've just had to google Ocado vans to see what you are all talking about. I'm assuming Ocado is a posh shop, we don't have them in Scotland.

FredAstaireAteMyHamSandwich · 24/07/2020 04:28

You can tell by my old school Nokia how long ago this was! It was also on the Thursday before Easter. I so wanted to shout ‘Good Luck for tomorrow’ as he walked back down the path!

"Your ASDA driver Kevin is on his way"
FredAstaireAteMyHamSandwich · 24/07/2020 04:29

Ps, Jesus has never returned to do another delivery...

penelopeplums · 24/07/2020 04:31

@FredAstaireAteMyHamSandwich

Ps, Jesus has never returned to do another delivery...
He probably went to see his Dad for three days but couldn't come back because of lockdown,
FredAstaireAteMyHamSandwich · 24/07/2020 04:37

Unfortunately there was no wine or tins of tunain my order, or I could have asked him to do his party trick.

misscarlar · 24/07/2020 07:34

I work at asda and the texts are drivers real names but sometimes routes get changed after the text has gone out

NightSpot · 24/07/2020 07:41

our UPS guy post s on the local gacrnookall the time, saying have a great weekend, he misses us all when he is on annual leave, when he was isolating etc. People wave at him and post things like, see you tomorrow on x street. It's a little....odd. he is like a local celebrity?!

MadisonAvenue · 24/07/2020 07:50

I feel like I’m missing out with my Tesco delivery - they don’t give a name, just an unfriendly your delivery will be with you between 10 and 11.

I saw that Brian, our regular Hermes driver, likes going on bike rides and watching sports on TV, an apparently so does the one who delivers when Brian’s not at work. I was quite disappointed that they’re hobbies were the same, word for word Grin

PrivateD00r · 24/07/2020 07:55

@Pepperwort

Suits me. I don't need to know the correct name of the person who delivered or served me - I'm sure if there was a problem that could be worked out from work records. Meanwhile employees have a right to privacy. Things are getting ridiculous - we sell our labour to employers, not our full identification for everyone who walks through the doors.
Nope, not when they used to come inside your home with the groceries. Anyone coming inside your home should have photo ID on with their name and company name. Less relevant at the minute I guess.
