"Your ASDA driver Kevin is on his way"

I'm distraught. I think it's just generic. I thought it was actually the name of the delivery driver, but today it wasn't Kevin from a few weeks back. It was a different chap. And he wasn't called Kevin.

So now I don't think "Your ASDA driver John / Gareth / Stephen / Richard is on the way" were actually called any of those names.

I'm really disappointed! Is it just a generic text generated from the depot?!

I was a waitress summers during uni and worked at a beach resort in a very popular restaurant.

If a waitress already had your name you had to pick another so it wouldn't be confusing in the kitchens. Maybe it's like that? If someone has your name you use another?

lifeafter50 · 23/07/2020 19:03

😃😃😃fab thread!!

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 23/07/2020 19:04

Dd has a dpd driver the other day, can’t remember his name, but she knew what music he liked, his favourite film and his hobby. She was out and upset she didn’t meet him.

EstuaryBird · 23/07/2020 19:11

A while ago I had an Asda delivery from ‘Phil‘......my next delivery was from ‘Mitchell’. Grin

AnneOfQueenSables · 23/07/2020 19:15

I've just read the Jesus in the Cabbage Van thread. How did I not know that Ocado did this? It's almost worth moving into one of their delivery areas just so I can get the texts. Grin

Xmasfairy86 · 23/07/2020 19:15

Apparently the DPD driver profiles are made up!

Most DPD drivers have a set route so ordinarily you’ll get the same one 5/6 days a week and maybe a different weekend driver. I have DPD Dave most of the time.

No idea who brings my Tesco delivery. Maybe we should feed that back!

Estellelauder · 23/07/2020 19:18

I had Derek in the Lemon van only the other day. Well, DH did. I was still asleep so I’ve no idea if he was actual Christ the Redeemer in the Strawberry van and it was an admin glitch.

Emeraldshamrock · 23/07/2020 19:21

Afaik the text is sent from their pda system it would be their personsl log in.
The employee can change their real name under the GDPR most stick with their own first name especially if they're contractor's.

Yorkiee · 23/07/2020 19:25

I had a delivery x to delivery and c turned up and said x is sooo behind with his deliveries I had to step in 😂

MahMahMahMahCorona · 23/07/2020 19:26

Thing is I have been writing (we've been shielding) "thanks Kevin"; "thanks Gareth"; "thanks John"; on A4 paper and getting the children to put it up on the window when the driver gets here. We went without food deliveries for a while. I was seriously low on staples. Now I wonder whether those particular drivers just thought we were completely bonkers 🤣🤣🤣

Love love love "Jesus in the Cabbage Van"

What? It's generic?

I'm so disappointed.

CatRamsey · 23/07/2020 19:41

The best text I ever had was from Amazon saying

"Hello my name is Graham. In brown bin."

I was gonna reply asking if he needed help getting out 😂😂

HazelBite · 23/07/2020 19:41

I have just checked my ASDA texts in the last few weeks we have had, Roberto, Shannon, Terry (twice) Roby, Leon, Graham and on Wednesday we had Momodou, who had to phone me because he couldn't find the house (he was new).
It is not a generic text from my local shop as I recognise them and can put a name to the face.

goingoverground · 23/07/2020 19:42

@MitziK Actually I think my delivery comes from the Erith depot in South East London! The driver had neutral, middle class Southern accent so he could be from pretty much anywhere but he did have a blonde straggly bob... The first part of his real name is both a Roman Emperor and a Harry Potter character.

MahMahMahMahCorona · 23/07/2020 19:43

@Estellelauder 🤣

@JesusInTheCabbageVan what happens when you need to drive the onion van???

I wrote on the Jesus in the Cabbage Van Thread back in 2012 (name-changed since then).
It only seems like yesterday; yet in the intervening years, my son has gone through the whole of secondary school, is now at the end of his first year at university and I’m feeling very old 😂

Anyway back to the thread. I’ve just checked my Ocado texts and a delivery was made by Andrzej in Abbiss Apple van.
I do like some alliteration Grin

DuckonaBike · 23/07/2020 20:02

We sometimes have a DPD driver called Errol, which always makes me laugh as it reminds me of Errol in the Harry Potter books who was a (hopeless) delivery owl. I haven’t mentioned it to the DPD Errol though. He seems to do a perfectly good job.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 23/07/2020 20:05

@MahMahMahMahCorona it brings a tear to my eye. 😥

CheshireDing · 23/07/2020 20:06

I thought they were the real names, Morrison’s does make me laugh when I know Paul is on his way in the hotdog van - not much happening these days so small things amuse me.

If I was one of the drivers though I would come up with some fabulous random name, ‘Christobel Delphine in the satsumas van’

Ontheboardwalk · 23/07/2020 20:08

I don’t get why they feel the need to tell us 'so you know it’s me, I’ll be driving the Onion van'. No I’ll know it’s you because you'll park your company named van outside my house with my order and knock on my door.

One delivery driver had to return to depot following an issue and change his van. He said I was the first customer not to complain that he wasn’t in the van they were expecting. I hadn’t noticed

Trampslikeu · 23/07/2020 20:17

Praise you Jesus, I knew you wouldn't let me down

goingoverground · 23/07/2020 20:20

@Chig

I was waiting for an Asda delivery that didn’t turn up at all

Eventually got a refund.

I’m with Morrison’s now. The DC love guessing which van will bring our shopping. I’m guessing the hotdog van tomorrow.

Morrisons vans are named after junk food?!! But Ocado have fruit and veg. Hmm... Given that Ocado provide Morrisons delivery service, that probably says something about what they think of their clientele.
whataboutbob · 23/07/2020 20:23

@PenCreed- it’s a different Abdul each time. They are different men!

buzz91 · 23/07/2020 20:23

We just had an Asda delivery and it said Kevin, not sure if that was his name though!
