Not an aibu but posting here for traffic. DS (9) has grown barely half a size in the last 2 years when measured for new school shoes. The last 2 pairs have been a 13.5 which I believe is quite small for a 9 year old anyway?

He will probably have a massive growth spurt before long and skip a couple sizes.

But should I be worried? That his feet have barely grown in 2 years!

Dd on the other hand has jumped 2 sizes since last year!

It sounds quite small to me, but I have a tall nearly 4 year old who has size 10 feet. I'm not sure size of feet by age is particularly helpful once their older.

It does feel unusual not to grow at all but I guess at least it's cheaper!

Do you or his dad have small feet?

My DS is similar. He is also quite short so I expect that is it.

Popsy92 · 23/07/2020 13:48

Well me and his dad both have similar size feet (7). I feel my feet are large for a woman (I’m not sure if 7 is particularly large but they are quite wide as well) and as a man my partner has got small feet. Dd also has small feet but they do grow!

DS is about 130cm tall too so not particularly short!

Depends how tall I guess, and what the range of normal is within your family. My 9 year old wears a size 3, but is at the taller/longer end of the range I suspect. That said, the rate of zipping through shoe sizes has slowed a bit lately, and they have probably been in the same size for about 9 months at least.

If you think he's also not growing in height and you have real concerns, have a chat to his GP?

It does sound very small for a 9 year old to be fair.

How tall is he and how tall are you and his father,
Genetically speaking he will be at least as tall as you are.

I wouldn't worry. DS9 has size 6 feet, his best friend is the same age and has size 13 feet - we met accidentally a few weekends ago when shops began to open as I realised we needed to measure his feet, his best friends Mum laughed her head off when she saw the price of my DS' shoes compared to her DS. They're just differently sized at this age and what tends to happen with mine is that they don't seem to grow at all for a period then shoot through sizes in a very short period.

My son age 10 wears a 2.5. Has only grown 0.5 in 1.5yrs. His younger brother is 7 and wears a 3. He is also taller than the 10 year old. They are all different. Me and their dad are both tall with big feet so expecting a growth spurt for the eldest
