Today me and a friend are going to a near by city for shopping and lunch.
She asks me to book somewhere for lunch last week.
I asked her what type of food she wanted and she said "pub grub"
So I found a place and booked it.
She asked to see the menu
It has bangers n mash/fish and chips/all day breakfast/burgers /mince n dumplings etc
Plus sandwiches /toasties/wraps and salads
Her response "hmm is that the whole menu"
I said yes ..
She said there's not much on ?
I said to her you said you wanted pub grub
She replied "there's no jacket potatoes "
I said "you said pub grub"
She said "yes nice pub grub"
So I said ..ok what meal do you fancy ?
She said "I don't really know,pub grub"
So I said ..ok well why don't you have a look because I've spent all week looking and you can't decide.
She replied
"No need to be arsey,I told you pub grub"
Aibu here to think she's a bit annoying ?

There's so much to unpack here.

Who goes out to a restaurant to savour a jacket potato?

Who uses the words 'pub grub' in conversation?

Re-evaluate friendship.

(you're not being arsey, she is. It's one of those things dickheads do to feel superior. It wouldn't have mattered where you'd chosen, she'd have told you it was shit and you have bad taste just so she felt better and had an anecdote to tell others.)

YouBringLightInToADarkPlace · 23/07/2020 22:39

Anxiety isn't a green light for being a dickhead.

Sack her off OP, it isn't meant to be hard work- you're her friend not her social worker.

AliceinBunnyland · 23/07/2020 22:40

I think you need to say something to her OP

If she can take it on board then you're friendship is likely to improve but otherwise it sounds like this friendship is not worth the hassle

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 23/07/2020 22:51

If there's a next time, let her find somewhere to eat.

I USED to have a friend (now dropped) who moaned excessively over every single restaurant. Over a period of fifteen years, I can only recall one restaurant that she liked.

HelloDulling · 23/07/2020 22:53

Anxiety? About potatoes?

MysteryParcels · 23/07/2020 22:56

Good she's a knocker.

No way would I have got a taxi instead of a train.

No way would I have pissed about finding somewhere for lunch if she was the one with something in mind.

And there's definitely no way I'd have chances the booking ifI'd have booked a pub serving pub grubs only to be told vaguely that it wasn't the type of vague pub grub she actually wanted.

She sounds like miserable company.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 23/07/2020 23:00

I would have suggested one place and when she said no I would have told her to let me know when she had pick somewhere herself. She sounds like a total pain in the arse.

Notredamn · 23/07/2020 23:17

Why would endlessly repeating 'pub grub' conjure up a realisation of , ah yes, she very specifically means she wants a baked potato'?!
Did you mishear? Was she saying 'spud, spud'?
Blaming medical anxiety? Potato sack her off.

PablosHoney · 23/07/2020 23:19

Potato sack 🤣

Why are you dragging up this zombie thread?

You can clearly see that by the time you quoted it was deleted (by my request) so obviously a mistake!

I know 😂😂

NewMarmiteJar · 14/03/2025 23:45

I’d be telling her to book it herself next time. You’re not arsey, OP.
