Today me and a friend are going to a near by city for shopping and lunch.
She asks me to book somewhere for lunch last week.
I asked her what type of food she wanted and she said "pub grub"
So I found a place and booked it.
She asked to see the menu
It has bangers n mash/fish and chips/all day breakfast/burgers /mince n dumplings etc
Plus sandwiches /toasties/wraps and salads
Her response "hmm is that the whole menu"
I said yes ..
She said there's not much on ?
I said to her you said you wanted pub grub
She replied "there's no jacket potatoes "
I said "you said pub grub"
She said "yes nice pub grub"
So I said ..ok what meal do you fancy ?
She said "I don't really know,pub grub"
So I said ..ok well why don't you have a look because I've spent all week looking and you can't decide.
She replied
"No need to be arsey,I told you pub grub"
Aibu here to think she's a bit annoying ?

Sorry, I'm on your friend's team. That sounds a perfectly reasonable selection of options, but more like transport caff grub than pub grub. Where's the steak pie, chips and veg, toad in the hole, roast-dinner-of-the-day, ploughman's lunch, lasagne?

ComeOnBabyPopMyBubble · 23/07/2020 11:24

Since when are jacket potatoes the benchmark for nice? If she wanted something specific she should've said or booked it herself. I hate people that are "anywhere..but not there..or there..or there.. ".

I'd come but since it's not raining here I assume I'm slightly too far away.Grin

ComeOnBabyPopMyBubble · 23/07/2020 11:26

Where's the steak pie, chips and veg, toad in the hole, roast-dinner-of-the-day, ploughman's lunch, lasagne?

At the restaurant the friend could've picked or booked herself if she had something specific in mind?

AryaStarkWolf · 23/07/2020 11:31

So I don't think it's so much that she's desperate for a baked potato. It's that she wants a cooked lunch, not just a sandwich.

There was hot food on the menu as well though?

Atadaddicted · 23/07/2020 11:32

Genuine question

Are you both early teens by any chance?!

1moremum · 23/07/2020 11:33

Since when is a jacket potato a 'nice' pub meal? I think of jacket potatoes as the sort of thing you get at lunch cafes and the cafe/tearoom at tourist sites. I'd love to go to the place you picked, I'd like a pie and a pint.

Beautiful3 · 23/07/2020 11:38

Does it really matter where you go? After all it's about meeting up, having a laugh and eating what evers on the menu?! She sounds like hard work...just saying!

KittyHawke80 · 23/07/2020 11:38

I wouldn't be friends with anyone who thought a jacket potato constituted 'nice' pub grub.

BubblyBarbara · 23/07/2020 11:40

So I said ..ok what meal do you fancy ?
She said "I don't really know,pub grub"

This is the sort of response you get from an idiot who is spoiling for an argument. If she really cared she would have a more specific idea than "pub grub"

bringincrazyback · 23/07/2020 11:41

Yanbu. If she has such a specific idea of what kind of food constitutes 'pub grub' let her come up with a menu that suits.

KittyHawke80 · 23/07/2020 11:44

Considering the terrible trouble places are having with no-shows - the selfish fucks - they probably aren't offering a veritable smorgasbord of options, anyway. They simply can't afford to buy all that food in to waste it. F 'n' C, S 'n' M, sarnies - you're golden. If she can't find something in that lot, she's a fussy bore.

DibDibDibduh · 23/07/2020 11:51

Nice lunch = jacket potato 😂 who knew....

IntermittentParps · 23/07/2020 12:28

Now this morning ..rather than get the train we should get a taxi as it's raining
(The train station is 5 min walk and £8 return )
Or taxi £50

Is she Mariah Carey?

And since when has repeating 'pub grub' clarified anything? Is she thick? Or being obtuse?

Screw her and go and find something nice to do with someone else or alone.

1forAll74 · 23/07/2020 12:30

She sounds a right pain, will she also nit pick about which shops you can and can't go into.?

StinkySink · 23/07/2020 13:00

If she wants a taxi, she can pay.

If she wants a spud she can search for it.

Has she always been an entitled, babied pain in the arsehole?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 23/07/2020 13:19

Anyway, everyone knows 'pub grub' is a packet of cheese and onion crisps opened down the back seam and presented flat on the bar. Which is pretty much a jacket potato.

THIS ^

gottastopeatingchocolate · 23/07/2020 13:52

The dynamics are really interesting, OP.

Do you mind me asking, what happened after the "arsey" comment? Did she find somewhere that she wanted to eat, did you make other suggestions, or did you stick with the booking you had made?

BubblyBarbara · 23/07/2020 16:13

To be fair, properly done a jacket potato can be absolutely amazing.

Maybe she is a bit old fashioned and wants a Ploughmans!

Cornettoninja · 23/07/2020 16:40

Where are you all getting your ploughman’s from?!? I don’t think I’ve seen that on a pub menu for years (and I’m sure I would’ve noticed because I love a good ploughman’s).

PablosHoney · 23/07/2020 16:42

Is a jacket potato nice pub grub, I hate that expression too.

DysonFury · 23/07/2020 16:44

I never realised my aversion to the term pub grub prior to reading this thread. Just horrid.

BarbedBloom · 23/07/2020 16:45

I hate cold food but there is decent selection there. I would probably get a taxi to the train station but I have mobility issues. I am intrigued by this roofless train you will be travelling on though Wink

PablosHoney · 23/07/2020 16:47

I’m glad it’s not just me, how is grub appetising

AlphaDalpha · 23/07/2020 16:48

Friend sounds a bit hard work BUT I do get their point, nice pub grub is good, the pub you've chosen does sound a bit "meh"

PablosHoney · 23/07/2020 16:52

Why couldn’t they do any of the leg work then considering they are the fusspot
