I love this show (iPlayer if anyone is interested and hasnt seen it) but I keep having to rewind because it is genuinely thought provoking. I start focussing on one thing a character has said and then realise I missed ten minutes!

Phyllis is a very interesting person and although my politics is the polar opposite of hers, she fascinates me. I love the way it has been written and the coercive sex thing that she just submits to, I was thinking (not knowing her story) "Oh now she starts to get it" and she doesnt!

The fact that this is a fictionalised account of real events makes it all the more powerful to me.

I too am fascinated with Phyllis! I read an article talking to her son John, He felt some aspects of his parents R/L were slightly different to those depicted .i.e His mother would often be typing in the study and would not instantly greet Fred and hang his coat for him as shown in one scene .The whole show is great really enjoying it ! It is so typical of that era though ,when women would defer to their husbands on all sorts of things ! Gloria Steinam felt that Phyllis was over represented in the Drama, and played a lesser role than was depicted ,Whatever the facts a real winner and unmissable here!
