Anxiety so and I cannot eat!?

I am having a stressful time at present and my anxiety has really increased, I am struggling to eat and feel like I'm in a constant state of fight or flight.

I have been drinking plenty and trying soups etc but I can almost see the weight loss, has anyone experienced this and if so what helped?

I do not need to lose weight and I am now worrying that I will get too thin.

I’m like this when stressed. I just ride it out, don’t add to my stress by worrying about food. I tend to pick up again fairly quickly once I’m out the other side of the issue.

It’s such a horrible feeling Flowers

I find light, simple, easy to prepare things are best. Soup like you said, or crackers, toast, cereal, fruit, yoghurt etc

Are you having treatment for your anxiety?

DrManhattan · 22/07/2020 21:02

I have had this before.
Little bit stressed = eat more
Alot stressed = don't eat

It only lasts a couple of days. I would try and get to the root of what is causing the stress but speak to your doc if it goes on for longer. Take care x

I tend to just have lots of snacks things to hand. I know I won’t be able to cook.

Cereal bars, crackers, smoothies even chocolate etc if it helps.

Make smoothies with fresh fruit and add ice cream and double cream. Been there myself it will pass, just try tiny amounts often.

I get this too when stressed or anxious and I then worry about the weight loss and lack of appetite, which feeds into the general anxiety!

Try not to worry about it, as you will regain the weight when you are feeling better. There might be some times of the day you can tolerate more foods - evenings better than first thing for me. Just try nibbling on little bits to get an appetite for more - cold grapes cut in half, berries, ritz crackers, rich tea biscuits, babybel cheeses etc. Also try to have bits of fattier foods like peanut butter/banana/hummus on toast. I got through lots of individual pots of custard and yoghurts when I was struggling.

I had this so bad last year that I
Literally couldn't swallow anything that wasn't liquid! I lost two stone in two months. Hi calorie smoothies helped. Banana, avocado, gold top milk, ice cream, weetabix and protein drinks. Soft pasta was good too with creamy or cheesy sauces. I am now back to eating more or less normally and have regained a stone. Try not to worry, it will pass. X

You poor thing it’s a rubbish feeling

You need to treat the cause rather than the symptom.

Get to the docs and speak about what your options are. Don’t be afraid to sign yourself off work For a while to get back on an even keel or take medication/ counselling to try to combat it.

You’re not alone OP. Anxiety is rubbish and soul destroying esp when it disrupts your eating or sleeping.
