hiding pregnancy /dying hair

kent1991 · 22/07/2020 07:35

I am in my first trimester of pregnancy, very early at 5 weeks.

I am booked in to get my hair dyed on friday but no longer want to due to NHS advice to avoid in the first trimester.

Due to Covid, local hairdressers being backed up, I am getting my hair dyed by a colleague who is an exhairdresser.

I dont want to tell her the real reason as I can imagine itll be around the workplace in minutes.

Can anybody think of any good excuses? Im a terrible liar and dont want her to guess lol

i should add I told her i was desperate to do it because my hair is in bad condition and shes doing it pretty cheap so feel silly saying its down to cost

Lots of people are saying they are still very uncomfortable being in shops and other small spaces with multiple people at the moment. Can't you just say that?

dementedpixie · 22/07/2020 07:44

NHS doesn't say to avoid it. It says some women choose to wait until after the first trimester.

MinnieJackson · 22/07/2020 07:47

Would it be at your/ her house?
I'd go for a violent case of the shits

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 22/07/2020 07:55

If your hair is in bad condition, I can't imagine dying it will improve it Hmm
tell her you've decided to embrace the grey/your natural colour and just get a decent cut.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 22/07/2020 08:04

I think you would be fine to dye it tbh, never crossed my mind with either of my pregnancies not to.

Just say you’ve decided to grow it out for a bit longer using conditioning treatments for a while.

Twizbe · 22/07/2020 08:04

You can dye your hair while pregnant. A new patch test is a good idea as your skin can become more sensitive.

I did it more than once in both pregnancies and all was fine

kent1991 · 22/07/2020 08:05

Thanks for your advice :)

Maybe say you've had a reaction to a new hair product and it's left your scalp very sensitive, you could then either cancel our all for a new patch test whichever you'd rather

slipperywhensparticus · 22/07/2020 08:07

I did it first trimester it went strange colour stripes to the point where my boss asked me if I intended it to look like that 🤔

kent1991 · 22/07/2020 08:09

Yeah i noticed it says "many women choose" unhelpfully vague lol

Currently in my third pregnancy and have always highlighted my hair during each one. Usually during each trimester.

kent1991 · 22/07/2020 08:11

I meant bad condition in the sense I have terrible lockdown roots lol! Other than that its fine :)

You'd need to do a patch test for the dye, wash it straight off and claim a reaction

Smithlets80 · 22/07/2020 08:22

Are you getting highlights/bleach? My hairdresser told me that this was ok as it doesn’t touch the scalp but other dyes should be avoided as they do.

pregnancydiet · 22/07/2020 08:26

There is no medical advice to avoid dying your hair at any stage of pregnancy.
Sometimes your scalp can be more sensitive but there's absolutely no evidence that dying your hair will harm a baby.

Russell19 · 22/07/2020 09:09

Say you've got covid symptoms.

Flappingflamingo · 22/07/2020 09:18

My hairdresser told me it was fine 🤷🏻‍♀️

CornerOfTheSky · 22/07/2020 10:25

Tell her you have covid symptoms so are isolating just in case

iswhois · 22/07/2020 10:34

It's your hair you're entitled to change your opinion at the last minute

If it makes you feel better I had to cancel my appointment for a full head of highlights because I got drunk and shaved my head.

SunshineLollipopsRainbow · 22/07/2020 15:18

I coloured my hair in first trimester pregnancy and my baby is fine and dandy now at 7 months.

Ineedcoffee2345 · 22/07/2020 15:21

Dyed my hair as normal during both pregnancies. Just made sure room was well ventilated

Vieve1325 · 22/07/2020 15:26

You’ve hurt your back and can’t stand the thought of having to sit for any length of time without walking about, which you couldn’t do due to Covid restrictions.
