A+E! Worse now than ever...

HJ2020 · 22/07/2020 02:37

Been sat in A+E since half 10, there are still 6 people in front of me and probably another 40 behind me!

They have told everyone, if you need to go to the hospital then go... but they don't have the staff to treat the numbers! Its fucking TUESDAY night ( Wednesday morning now ) and the amount of pissed up idiots is unreal!

Honestly, if your not dieing stay at home 🤦🏻‍♀️

4 hour wait for non life threating isn't that long in theory

Monty27 · 22/07/2020 02:44

Are you not well OP? Do you have anyone to take care of you at home?
I've heard a&e departments have been like morgues. No pun intended.
Have you had anyone to bring you sustenance throughout the day.
I hope you're ok.

ImNotWhoYouThinkIam · 22/07/2020 02:47

I spent 4.5 hours in a and e tonight. The nurse said it's the busiest they've been for ages.

Kapps123 · 22/07/2020 02:58

I am working in a hospital tonight. It's fairly busy still for this time in the morning. Not back to normal yet, but still busy compared to recent times.

Josette77 · 22/07/2020 02:59

But you are there too and well enough to post?

Pieceofpurplesky · 22/07/2020 03:00

Sounds pretty standard for our local a and e

HJ2020 · 22/07/2020 03:02

@Josette77 What I have could be life threatening if not sorted out, I am in pain but can still function.

Seen a lot of drunken idiots here tonight... and a lot of people saying 111 told them to come, one even said she had a broken arm but was moving it fine 😫

OP posts:
HJ2020 · 22/07/2020 03:04

@Pieceofpurplesky Ours was dead until that idiot went on the TV telling people to use A+E again! Feel so sorry for the staff...

teaflake · 22/07/2020 03:04

What a nightmare. Hope you're seen soon.

Monty27 · 22/07/2020 03:05

Are you going to say what is wrong with you OP? You didn't answer my previous questions upthread

DisobedientHamster · 22/07/2020 03:06

I used my arm for 2 days before I finally had it x-rayed and found out it was broken.

4+ hours for non-life-threatening not so bad, IME.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 22/07/2020 03:07

But if you were dying you wouldn’t have been waiting for 4 hours behind all those people. So why didn’t you stay at home?

I’m not one of the MN only go to ED if you are in cardiac arrest or your head’s hanging off people, but you can’t really complain about other people going if you are there. Especially if you’ve been triaged and they are in front of you.

Drunk people need medical care just as much as anyone else.

HJ2020 · 22/07/2020 03:09

@Monty27 I have a problem that needs operating on but due to covid had to wait, now the problem has gotten considerably worse causing excruciating pain. Had my bloods done and cannula inserted but only seen 1 doctor the whole time iv been here the rest is nurses! Leading to a very big queue of people.

Luckily vending machines take card now! Not that I feel up to food...

@@RafaIsTheKingOfClay unfortunatly for me I have been told by my GP that if this occurs to go straight to A&E, I would much rather be at home with my family including my 9 month old BF son, but id also like to not die in my sleep from a complication I chose to ignore

And so will all the other patients who are in there seeking medical treatment.
fullofhope100 · 22/07/2020 03:14

Hi op - I assume you've been seen now as no more posting from you. H
What was wrong? Hope you're sorted now.

theunperfectparent · 22/07/2020 03:18

If you are waiting for a op and have had to go to a&e and they have put a cannula in i wouldn’t have anything to eat Or drink incase they take you down for emergency surgery as you would have to wait another 6 hrs. Im surprised they haven’t told you this. Hope you are ok

DisobedientHamster · 22/07/2020 03:18

Cryptic. Probably gallbladder but likes to be all mysterious except to denigrate others who are also there to get medical treatment, they can't possibly need it as much.
HJ2020 · 22/07/2020 03:19

@fullofhope100 Nope, still waiting. 2 people have gone through in 4 hours! There is a patient sat here crying in pain 🤷🏻‍♀️ not sure what is going on!

FredaFrogspawn · 22/07/2020 03:20

I wonder if lots of doctors are now taking their overdue annual leave if there is only one there. I bet lots of them were desperate for a break after four months of working with covid.

Sparticuscaticus · 22/07/2020 03:30

OP, that is surprising. Good shout to let people know. That is unusually busy for a tues/wed early morning & it sounds like you have a wait still.

I don't know what's with the nit picky responses of some PPs , Really rubbish of people to question if you need to be there, (I'm sure your GP knows best), you're not asking people for their uninformed medical advice but merely saying it's extremely busy for so unusual a time.

6 hours+ sat in a busy A&E in pain is no fun. It's there's at least 50 people in your A&E waiting at this time 3.30am on a Wed, that's pretty overwhelming for that dept.

flyingspaghettimonster · 22/07/2020 03:40

That's not a bad wait time. I was at ER last night with my daughter who managed to leave it till 10pm to tell us she was peeing blood. We were there till 3am and didn't consider it a long time.

And yet the OP is making all sorts of medical judgements about the people who are waiting in there, too.
CeeceeBloomingdale · 22/07/2020 04:01

I sat from 7pm to 5am with a patient who had sepsis on a random week day pre covid-19. Triage is supposed to prioritise but it's not perfect. It is however fairly standard to wait, pandemic or not.
