I bought my Dogue de Bordeaux in December from a woman who claimed to have pedigree KC registered dogs, microchipped and vaccinated, & most importantly vet checked.
She seemed perfect, & although I didn't go to visit him as I was in Vietnam (my fault) I knew he was pedigree & I got many updates.
When we got there, her home was horrendous, not good living conditions and we just wanted to get him out of there ASAP. Whilst he is pedigree, he wasn't microchipped or vaccinated and we have recently found out he has Valgus & OCD which is a hereditary joint disease. This is going to cost us thousands, and already has cost us near to £2,000 including the dog, vet bills and X-rays.
I know it's my fault for taking him home, but we had no way to see those hereditary diseases when we picked him up and apart from her home being an absolute disgrace we had no reason to suspect that he'd have these issues apart from the fact that clearly she was an unsafe breeder. I want her breeding license removing as it is just horrendous for her to be breeding, & although we supported that by going through with the purchase, we just didn't want to leave him in that place. We were originally wanting to rescue, but we really wanted a dogue de Bordeaux from a seemingly reputable breeder (she had reviews etc and seemed very very good.) I trusted her to be a good breeder, and I feel devastated that she isn't, I don't want her to make any more profit from her dogs. It's so sad that people are doing things like this, and I've had no prior experience with anything like this. I'm young, and so all I thought about when I was faced with the state of where she was breeding was getting him out ASAP.
No judgements, I've already beaten myself up about even supporting her in the first place. If anyone has any advice please help!
