most off these threads that op uses this aren't usually outlandish or suspect sounding, so why do they do it ?
also the 'disclaimer i don't give anyone esp the daily fail the right to reprint this' why do it when it has no legal binding and anyone can copy, paste or do what they want with it ?
i'm curious as it comes up from time to time

Probably because they think people will advanced search them and accuse them of being a troll so by saying that it shows they've been around a long time.

I don't get the disclaimer, it doesn't mean anything and certainly won't prevent them from publishing it if they want.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 21/07/2020 14:27

They are listing the threads to show they have been here for years. They are not a new poster who has just registered to post something that makes people go Hmm

ilovesooty · 21/07/2020 14:29

Pointless but it's supposed to prevent troll hunting.

Depending on the subject and content of your thread it might identify you as a cowardly GF though.

Stannisbaratheonsboxofmatches · 21/07/2020 14:29

It’s nearly always quite recent threads (like Sistine chapel or cancel the cheque etc) or ones that have been in the media like penis beaker so I’m not sure why they bother!

And as for saying 'the Daily Mail are arseholes' - it doesn't stop them publishing the story, but they may be less keen to do so if that's said right there in the OP.

Absolutely triggers me 😡😡😡 I get unaccountable rage

GlumyGloomer · 21/07/2020 14:56

I'm relatively new, less than a year, and after seeing references come up I found them all in classics so referencing past threads really doesn't prove anything.
Ps, t-rexing in Asda was my favourite Wink

TokyoSushi · 21/07/2020 14:58

To 'prove' they are a regular, although the threads that they name are always those that most likely anybody, Mumsnetter or not would know!

Toothsil · 21/07/2020 15:07

I'm always mildly intrigued by penis beaker, I missed that one. I remember the Sistine chapel one though!

MinnieJackson · 21/07/2020 15:09

Sisteen chapel was my fave Grin

Andthewinnerislucky · 21/07/2020 15:47

It does make me chuckle sometimes, other times I roll my eyes. I think a seasoned troll would have learned this "trick" by now and started doing it themselves, with how popular it's become. No need to list threads to 'prove' your MN knowledge or the length of time you've been lurking perhaps here but I get why some think they have to.

I find habitually 'advance-searching' a poster randomly to be a rather strange thing to do, except for some genuine specific reasons.

ah, yes the t -rex thing, my god how i felt so cringed out for the poster, esp when her dp couldn't see anything wrong with it. heck i want to reread that thread now but it's probably long gone.

It’s a shibboleth to show that you are not a troll. It used to be ‘Pom-bears and naice ham.’

nolovelost · 25/07/2020 17:03

I've never really got it either!

Laaalaaaa · 25/07/2020 17:08

It’s stupid - do they not think trolls hanging about here see folk doing it so it really means nothing. As for the daily mail (I love that website) disclaimers - pathetic.

SunbathingDragon · 25/07/2020 17:12

Surely many trolls are PBP anyway, so well aware of what has been posted in the past. The DM reference always baffles me, especially when the post isn’t even interesting for people who are bored at work and passing time let alone those who pay for papers.
