Benefit for 18yr old son

HI. I'm just wondering what benefit, if any, my son should be applying for. He is having a year out before uni, and so far has not managed to get a job at all.
Does UC count our savings, as he lives with us? Or just what he has?
If he could contribute to the household, it would really help at the moment.

Why have a gap year if he can't get industry experience or support himself? My DD wanted a gap year to do the same, but couldn't get a placement due to no experience or qualifications, so is going to carry on with her degree in September, she did a foundation year. It's not too late to get a uni placement.

Totally agree! Bloody hell wouldn’t have crossed my mind to go on benefits at 18!!

But he's done the calculations and computer said no

I suppose i could get him to officially try and get told no

He can claim UC.

But if he could access The non financial help and advice it would deffo be worth doing

DS is 18 and a pit musician. All gigs and shows cancelled due to
Covid so no income. He applied for, and got UC. Our earning werent taken into account
