First time out in new campervan, tiny site so just ours and 1 other. Had a few problems getting sorted but other couple come over and help. Very friendly, good advice that worked, helpful tips. Aanndd then. From absolutely nowhere comes the random racist comment about some people in the village. What is it with some people that do that? Not vaguely relevant to light switches but must be ok as the other partner says the vocal one ‘isn’t really racist’ when we say ‘that’s not ok’ and walk off stunned 🙄 They seemed so nice and helpful but just to randomly come out with a really offensive racial slur - just wtaf?

I've experienced similar, not camping, but where you are staggered both at the racism, and at their blithe presumption that you share their views after having met you for all of 2 minutes.

The usually lovely foreman at my former workplace once came out with something racist, I was really shocked and said "I didn't you were a racist Doug!" and he was really cross. It's boggling.

Well done for calling them out on it.

Boggling is the word for it. It’s not like it was even vaguely connected to what we were talking about - just like a brain burp. I can only think that ‘man of a certain age’ wasn’t used to not speaking his every thought with complete certainty that everyone would agree with him. Bit stuffed now if we get stuck with anything else
