Diet plan consultant

I reached out to a consultant for a weight loss company (Not sure if I’m allowed to name, so won’t just to be on the safe side!) to arrange an initial consultation. I have around ten stone to lose and told her this. She booked me in, all seemed good.

A few minutes after our conversation, I received another text from her just saying “insert name of weight loss plan, she’s got 10 stone to lose!!!!!”.

As soon as I got the message I got quite upset. Not sure who I thought she had meant to send it to, but the number of exclamation marks left me feeling really embarrassed and upset. I KNOW it’s a lot to lose, I’m not stupid, but it had taken a lot for me to reach out to someone to do something about it and I felt immediately judged by the person who was supposed to be helping me.

I text back to say I would cancel the appointment but thank you for her time. She replied saying it was meant to be sent to her business account, it was nothing nasty, she was just so happy because I had the same amount to lose as her. No message from either of us since. The website showed her loss as six stone, not ten, so I’m even more dubious about her reasoning.

Did I overreact? It left me feeling really rubbish all day but I’m now wondering if her excuse was genuine and if it was I feel a bit silly for my reaction.

MidnightCitrus · 19/07/2020 15:54

SilentAlarm · 19/07/2020 16:12

Cambridge is an MLM company aka a legal pyramid scheme.
All she'll care about is getting her hands on your money I'm afraid.

Oysterbabe · 19/07/2020 16:26

Maybe she was thinking about how great it would be to have someone who has had a 10 stone loss that she could use as marketing for her company. Maybe she's had loads of people losing a stone and really wanted someone with more to lose.
She was probably just being a bitch though.

OlaEliza · 19/07/2020 16:57

You can do it yourself with exante or slim n save. Much cheaper and no judgmental twats to deal with.

C152H · 19/07/2020 17:01

How unprofessional! I wouldn't move forward with this company.

You may have done a lot of research already to find something that is right for you, but it may be worth at least a chat with a registered dietician, as they are qualified health professionals. If applicable, they can create meal plans to cater for specific medical conditions. There's more information on the NHS website if you'd like to have a look.

Neverendingsaga · 19/07/2020 17:29

I'm so sorry that's so rude....even if she meant it in a purely financial way. It's not good incentive.

I have done Cambridge twice in my life. The first time many years ago I had a lovely consultant and lost a lot of weight.

The second time was just a couple of years ago. My height meant that, according to the website, I needed 3 meal replacements a day. She insisted I need 4 because of my height. I checked and asked her again and she insisted. So I bought enough for 4 a day and got rid of her after 3 weeks as she was basically swindling me, I kept the additional meals for the extra week. It really annoyed me.

I didn't realise they were mlm but I wouldn't go back to them ever. And certainly not to your consultant. That was really unprofessional whatever her motive.

I have about 7 stone to lose. I've done it before and I will do it again. You CAN do this too Smile

Sparklesocks · 19/07/2020 17:48

Really unprofessional, I would’ve cancelled too.

BullshitVivienne · 19/07/2020 17:50

Did you know her, or do you have any friends in common?

SchrodingersImmigrant · 19/07/2020 17:59

@SilentAlarm do NOT let this demotivate you. She was a dick.

You can do it and without someone like this. Please, if you are willing to spend money, spend them on someone actually qualified who will help you change the lifestyle so you don't end up ill and yoyo back.

You CAN do it.

Winter2020 · 19/07/2020 18:03

Hi OP,
That must have hurt. Please don't think everybody is like this.

I dated a personal trainer in the past and he had a heart of gold and was most passionate about helping people get a little bit fitter to build their confidence and be able to enjoy their life more. No judgement at all - just fired up about helping people. I guess it struck me because I has (wrongly) assumed a trainer might be only focused on helping "gym people".

Don't let this woman set you back but take your money elsewhere.

purplegayle · 19/07/2020 18:07

Best stay away. These companies are vultures. They pick every last piece of your self esteem. Only a tiny amount succeed. Im sorry. I have at least that to loose. Ive been ripped off with so many companies its unreal. Be kind to yourself. Eat healthy and exercise at least 4 times a week. These companies need taking down.

PenelopePitstop49 · 19/07/2020 18:12

A family friend did this diet OP, and had a massive stroke.

It's never right to have liquid only meals at 800 calories a day.

Find a personal trainer instead and do walking/outdoor exercise with them. You'll get far better results, and well done for reaching out - shame the person on the other end was such a twat.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 19/07/2020 18:13

Well... In the end the bad thing caused a good thing. You avoided a twat and can try something even better😁

SilentAlarm · 19/07/2020 18:17

Thank you for your comments everyone. They and the unanimous YANBU poll has made me feel loads better!

I had thought maybe she was seeing it as a potential for a good weight loss story/boost to her business but if that had been the case and if it had been me I think I would have tried to do more to pull it back rather than just sending the one text and then leaving it. That screams awkward guilt to me! We don't know each other or have any mutual friends, I would be mortified if that had been the case and she was telling someone that knows me!!

I’ll be sticking with this plan (albeit with a different consultant!) and didn’t mean for this post to be a negative against the plan as a whole - I’ve done it before with a fab consultant and all was going well until I got pregnant and had to stop before I worked through the steps. That consultant has moved which is why I was looking for someone else.

Thanks again and good luck to those of you who have also said you are trying to lose weight. X

OP - I’ve sent you a PM.

It’s not selling you anything - I’m an accountant not a diet consultant and have been posting a long time.

I detest MLM and also have a large amount of weight to lose.

eausolovely · 19/07/2020 19:10

So sorry this happened to you, sounds like she is just being a bitch. Not sure how people like that end up in these jobs.

DaisyDreaming · 19/07/2020 19:17

Do not give her your money! It’s awful she did that, there’s a million and one others out there peddling the same diet so don’t give your hard earned money to someone who did that. Good for you for wanting to lose 10 stone, you can do this :)
