Hairdresser appointment. Was I being precious?

My hairdresser is lovely, and I have been a client for over 30 years.
She offered me an appointment when they opened again on 4th July.
I wasn't in any rush, so I waited until this last week.
I asked in advance if there were any special instructions, e.g., whether I should wear a mask.
I knew that there would be no refreshments, magazines, etc., and I was not going to bring a coat or a handbag.
48 hours before, I got a generic email, which didn't sit right with me.
I was told that I couldn't bring my own bottle of water, and would not be allowed to use the toilet.
I am talking about an appointment which would take over 3 hours.
I cancelled, in good time, on the basis that I didn't feel comfortable with that.
I have been made to feel as if I were being awkward and difficult.
I can understand that a quick cut and blow dry might work this way, but, if you know that the work is going to take hours, shouldn't you factor in that people might want to use a loo?

yanbu, hopefully you explained why you cancelled anhd are free to find another hairdresser.
I went for a cut colour and blow dry last week, takes just over 2 hours, I bought my own water bottle but I was offered water in a disposable cup, bought my own magazine, I didnt have to wear a mask but hairdresser had a visor and gloves. I used the loo just before i left and they had anti bac sprays and wipes and asked you clean any surfaces you touched which is fine

I asked for advisement days before I went.
When I received it, I said that I would rather not come under those circumstances, as I didn't think that would work for me.
I gave plenty of notice to cancel the appointment, so someone else could be offered it, in good time.
We are still friends.
Everyone is trying to find their way in this difficult times.
Some people just seem to want to start a fight in an empty room.

Try having a hysterectomy and then you will see that 3 hours is impossible to go without a pee.

PablosHoney · 21/07/2020 17:19

That’s not really a try before you but situation 😀

SallyB392 · 21/07/2020 20:31

Did you explain your concerns and ask why? If not, yes I do think you are being precious!

flowery · 21/07/2020 20:37

”I said that I would rather not come under those circumstances, as I didn't think that would work for me. I gave plenty of notice to cancel the appointment, so someone else could be offered it, in good time.”

But what did she do/say then? The main point you seemed to be making in your first post was that you were made to feel as though you were being awkward/difficult, yet we are still in the dark as to what she did/said to make you feel that way?

CorianderLord · 21/07/2020 20:41

You're meant to be allowed water

SallyB392 · 22/07/2020 08:45

Thea, a hysterectomy doesn't make waiting 3hrs for a wee impossible, I had a total hysterectomy, several children, and multiple surgeries but can wait all day and drink loads. It has nothing to do with a generalised statement about hysterectomy. It's just an individual thing. No two women are the same!

thea543 · 22/07/2020 17:01

Well good for you.

PablosHoney · 22/07/2020 17:20

Are you 2? 😆

The issue with toilets may be linked to the fact that several studies regarding transmission indicated that toilets were a hotspot for transmission - it may be to do with the aerosols that are produced. One of the studies that was in a hospital linked a large amount of cases not to the wards but to the toilets themselves.

  • Researchers looking at hospitals in Wuhan, China, that treated COVID-19-positive patients have provided valuable new data on its transmission. They found that although the intensive care units were good at containing the spread of the virus outside of the patients' rooms, there was a high concentration of the virus in the air samples taken from the patients' toilets.

What are the implications of that finding? Droplets of SARS-CoV-2, which causes the disease COVID-19, can be spread and live in the air for up to 3 hours, and be disseminated to hard surface areas where they can live up to 3 to 4 days. That is quite concerning when you consider that flushing a toilet can create an aerosolized plume of these viral particles, which can then spread elsewhere within proximity. We know that toothbrushes left in proximity to the toilet gain viral spread quite rapidly, mirroring levels observed in the toilet itself. That same thing can occur for cell phones, which many people take with them into the bathroom.

It's just common sense really.
That is why people are concerned.
The hairdressers aren't being awkward on purpose. It is difficult for a lot of people to not go for 3 hours.

*RunningFro

People go to the toilet at the hairdressers??

I went for a wee 3 times at tbe hairdressers on Monday.
It was probably due to the 2 large coffees and 1 large hot chocolate she gave me!!

Aridane · 16/08/2020 12:11

My hairdresser is a 4 hour drive from where I live.

I hope she’s bloody brilliant!
