Hairdresser appointment. Was I being precious?

LadyLindaT · 19/07/2020 14:20

My hairdresser is lovely, and I have been a client for over 30 years.
She offered me an appointment when they opened again on 4th July.
I wasn't in any rush, so I waited until this last week.
I asked in advance if there were any special instructions, e.g., whether I should wear a mask.
I knew that there would be no refreshments, magazines, etc., and I was not going to bring a coat or a handbag.
48 hours before, I got a generic email, which didn't sit right with me.
I was told that I couldn't bring my own bottle of water, and would not be allowed to use the toilet.
I am talking about an appointment which would take over 3 hours.
I cancelled, in good time, on the basis that I didn't feel comfortable with that.
I have been made to feel as if I were being awkward and difficult.
I can understand that a quick cut and blow dry might work this way, but, if you know that the work is going to take hours, shouldn't you factor in that people might want to use a loo?

I'm amazed people can't go 3 hours without getting dehydrated, or hold going to the loo for that long.

Your choice if you feel it's unreasonable, you just can't have 3 hrs worth of treatments in one go.

Simples really.

Yes, you are a bit simple really.
Nicknacky · 19/07/2020 19:37

KeepWashingYourHands You are easily amazed then.

Simples.

What about people who have disabilities that require them to have access to toilets? Women who are on their period and who can't go three+ hours without using the loo? Women with weakened pelvic floors or bladders because of traumatic labour? People with bowel problems? Or people with say, kidney conditions that means they need to drink a lot?

Or does none of that matter now because of COVID?

Or you just find someone else who can provide the same service but with a loo. Simples really.

I'm frankly amazed at all the people who couldn't possibly last 3 hours between wees!

Crownduals · 19/07/2020 19:42

@HowLongCanICallitBabyWeight

People on MN seem to have tiny bladders, I last sent for a wee about half eleven before I put DS down for his nap, I've had two drinks since. I don't need to go again. Surely if you made sure you went before you'd be ok? It's not like it's a daily situation
Christ almighty, it’s not a bloody pissing contest. This and some of the other comments are ridiculous.

Newsflash some people piss more often than others, some people’s hairdos take longer than others.

Intelinside57 · 19/07/2020 19:42

There are some strange people on here. Making it a sort of virtue that they can hang on without having a drink or needing the toilet for over 3 hours. Can't you see how idiotic you sound?

I take tablets that make me very thirsty, I'd be desperate if I couldn't drink water for 3 hours. The fact that some people don't have that problem doesn't make them somehow superior, they just have different needs.
Mumsnet madness at it's worst.

You're easily amazed then Hmm

Maybe read the thread - then you can see all the numerous examples of why some people might not be able to manage long periods of time without access to a toilet!

It's mad isn't it?

Plus, it's not good for you to hold your bladder and bowels for hours on end! If you gotta go, you gotta go!

PablosHoney · 19/07/2020 19:45

Is it showing off or just a matter of fact 🤔

Beautiful3 · 19/07/2020 19:48

When I go, it's usually around 3.5 hours. I always go to the toilet twice. I couldn't go, if they said I couldn't use their toilet!

Nicknacky · 19/07/2020 19:52

Honest to god, I am surprised people are so surprised that people go to the loo in a 3 hour period.

I have a good bladder, I’ve learnt to hold it in as in my job it can be hours before I get to a loo.

However in a normal day I might pee every two hours or so.

Only on Mumsnet can this “surprise” people. Folk just want to be contrary for the sake of it.

ScrapThatThen · 19/07/2020 19:54

It's ridiculous. Loos aren't being cleaned between visits in hospitals, just more regularly. That's what handwashing is for. They will lose more customers than just you. I went recently and apart from chairs to wait outside the front door, visors, optional client masks, some perspex screens, it was all nice and normal. I even got a gloved head massage with my shampoo.

Intelinside57 · 19/07/2020 19:56

"Is it showing off or just a matter of fact 🤔"

I'm not sure what it is, but it's pretty juvenile. Like kids boasting about something stupid in the playground - who can hold their breath longest maybe. All this fake surprise that some people would struggle with these restrictions - it's odd. Or maybe some really are that hard of thinking that they are unaware that not everyone is made the same.

CremeEggThief · 19/07/2020 19:56

It does seem that a lot of people have come on this thread in a bad mood or looking to be offended!

Alsohuman · 19/07/2020 20:02

I’ve just got back from taking the dog out. I went to the loo before we went, by the time we got back an hour later, I was desperate again. I believe that’s pretty common in women who have had children. Tena Lady sales seem to bear that out. How incredibly lucky these camels are.

PablosHoney · 19/07/2020 20:07

There can be a separation between false surprise and not needing to go, I wouldn’t need it in 3 hours and that is factual but I also realise others are different.

PablosHoney · 19/07/2020 20:08

On the other side there seems to be a competition about how frequently people need to go too 😂😂 that’s odd as well.

Are you trying for Camel of the Year ? It doesn't do your water works any good you know !
PablosHoney · 19/07/2020 20:43

A quick google proves that to be wrong, you can go 9-10 hours without weeing before it starts to become unsafe.

AdobeWanKenobi · 19/07/2020 20:43

@PablosHoney

Well a competitive pissing thread makes a pleasant change from the usual competitive eating threads.
PablosHoney · 19/07/2020 20:44

😂😂 @AdobeWanKenobi Definitely, That or ‘I’m 7ft and 7 stone but wear a size 12, OP you must be obese’

EinsteinaGogo · 19/07/2020 20:46

Bloody ridiculous.

You can use the toilets at restaurants, pubs and cafes.

But not a hairdresser? Sounds almost discriminatory really.

Women = heavy periods = not welcome
People with bladder issues = not welcome

Don't bloody open if you can't provide a proper service. I hope people vote with their feet.

Itsarattrap · 19/07/2020 20:49

Generic e-mail really isn’t a slight. No doubt there are hundreds of eager customers.

Not able to bring a drink, very unreasonable.

I’ve never used a loo at a hairdresser’s so can’t really comment beyond saying I wouldn’t want to anyway.
