To worry that my new cough is a symptom of Corona Virus?

FizzAfterSix · 19/07/2020 12:13

I was woken up at 3am with a dry coughing fit, it went on for a few minutes and then I went back to sleep.

Woke up 9am and since then have coughed a few times. Feel a slight tickle at the back of my throat but no other symptoms.

I do occasionally get bad hayfever - coughing, sneezing and note that the pollen count is high at the moment.

If it wasn't for the virus I'd assume it was that but now I'm not too sure - I've never been woken up with a coughing fit before.

I'm a healthy, fit, slim, white 50 yr old woman with no underlying conditions so don't p'ly fall into any of the risk groups (apart from age). But live in London and have been out and about on the tube etc.

Vote Yes to say you may have Corona Virus
Vote No to say you probably don't.

But really, how can anyone really know? I thought the transmission rate was vanishingly low now.

But really, how can anyone really know?

By booking yourself in for a test.

Everyone I know who’s had one recently has had the results the next day.

In the meantime prob best to stay away from others.

InglouriousBasterd · 19/07/2020 12:16

It’s probably nothing but order a test and self isolate until it’s done - transmission in London is really low at the moment but it’s definitely a symptom and you do need to act like you have it. Fingers firmly crossed you don’t!!

lockdownparty · 19/07/2020 12:17

You book yourself a test

TheBabyAteMyBrain · 19/07/2020 12:18

Just book a test, then you'll know. Has to be done in the first 5 days of symptoms starting as far as I remember.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 19/07/2020 12:19

Bit of a daft aibu. Assume you have it and self isolate strictly from now on. You'll know in a few days.

D4rwin · 19/07/2020 12:21

This is turning into the new pee on a stick. You don't have to be in the risk group to contract the virus, it just means you are more likely to be severely affected if you do get it. No one on the internet can diagnose you. Do a test!

Lindy2 · 19/07/2020 12:23

You don't find out if you have Coronavirus by posting a poll on mumsnet do you. Just be sensible and book yourself a test so that you can actually find out if you have it.

thaegumathteth · 19/07/2020 12:24

You can know by booking a test and in the meantime presuming you have it and isolating

Useruseruserusee · 19/07/2020 12:25

Book a test OP.

M5ybelle · 19/07/2020 12:34

You would be unreasonable to not book a test. We did about 5 weeks ago it was a drive in one set up for lots of people but hardly anyone was there. Results came next day - negative. More people should be going, or is the fear of having their lives restricted and owning up to where they have been, seen. That crossed my mind, id seen a daughter at a distance and she was working in a bank. Get a test but remember you might need to get others in the future.

Chloemol · 19/07/2020 12:50

Just book a test that’s what they are there for

Sn0tnose · 19/07/2020 12:55

Book a test. Better that than you assume it’s nothing and unwittingly pass it onto someone who does have underlying conditions.

LadyPrigsbottom · 19/07/2020 12:56

Probably hay fever, but book a test and then you'll know Smile.

Bumble84 · 19/07/2020 12:57

Have you booked a test yet? Please do and stay away from me and every other human until you get the results!
