To consider whether it was just poo?

I’ve been rapidly putting on weight these past few weeks. My clothes have been getting tighter and tighter, belly massive, scales going up every day even though I’m not eating anymore than I normally do. I hadn’t been to toilet properly for around 3 weeks (doctor isn’t interested).

Out of desperation on Wednesday night I took 3 dulcolax tablets. Well the next day my toilet resembled a war zone. I had two massive “movements” and then diarrhoea for the rest of the day. I’ve had loose poo numerous times a day since Thursday. I’ve just stepped on the scales and I’ve lost half a stone since Thursday.

So the weight gain, I thought I was just getting fat but it was poo wasn’t it?? Must have been ... or am I kidding myself?

High fibre makes me worse. Also, lactose - most people who are intolerant get diarrhoea - but it has the opposite outcome for me.

I do think the GP should have been more helpful TBH! Can you see someone else ? They should take this seriously and also give info re diet and so on

OhYeahYouSuck · 18/07/2020 10:34

Yes, lets all share poo stories.

userxx · 18/07/2020 10:39

Yes, lets all share poo stories.

Go on then 👍

LakieLady · 18/07/2020 10:50

@OhYeahYouSuck, my poo stories wouldn't even raise a smirk.

In almost 65 years, I've had the runs twice (campylobacter and norovirus) and on the very rare occasions when I've had to take extra codeine (for arthritis) and got a bit bunged up, an extra apple, a few dried apricots and plenty of water does the trick within a day.

If you ever want puke stories though, I've got them by the (sick)bucketload.

And I am in Australia, so not morning drinking, don't worry!!

Witchofzog · 18/07/2020 10:57

I am the same op. I hardly go but then when I do Shock Alcohol helps me go and a roast dinner does too

nevermorelenore · 18/07/2020 10:59

Hope you've got a poo knife at the ready!

Apparently a poo can weigh between a quarter of a pound to a pound. So you'd have to be seriously backed up to lose half a stone. But maybe you were also bloated and lost water weight.

You need a freshly brewed coffee in the morning. Preferably at your desk at work so you can then waste your employer's money going to the loo.

wizzbangfizz · 18/07/2020 11:07

Dulcolax used to do a liquid you can't buy anymore - my god Shock

MitziK · 18/07/2020 11:11

@Bowerbird5

Try natural liquorice instead. Lakeland sell it. You need to eat more veg and fruit and drink plenty of water. A couple ( no more) pieces of liquorice a day will help and better than taking medication. Consider allergies too. Dairy can often be a problem. I would try another GP.
Oh, you are so trusting.

Not every condition can be fixed with food and water (or exercise, hot water bottles, massages or anything non invasive). Some actually need medication (note: not all people's bodies respond to things like Dulcolax or Lactulose) - and some can potentially result in emergency surgery.

But, by all means, advise people to stop taking medication and use other methods if you're confident in your abilities as an online Consultant Gastroenterologist...

HypatiaCade · 18/07/2020 11:12

Op I too have had constipation issues my whole life. I've gone lactose free and it has absolutely changed my life. If if its not something you've ever considered, might be worth a try?

Greenmarmalade · 18/07/2020 11:30

Get tested for coeliac?

Eggscellent · 18/07/2020 11:39

Have you heard of a squatty potty? It might help eliminate everything more often!

TooTrueToBeGood · 18/07/2020 11:39

No idea about the medical side of things but if my arithmetic is right you took a 7 pound shit, albeit over a couple of shifts. You're a legend.

I once took dulcolax (2 tablets), oh my word, it was horrendous.

JudgeRindersMinder · 18/07/2020 12:03

I don’t doubt the weight loss, my sister can be like that-she can literally look about 5 months pregnant, and it isn’t for the lack of an appropriate diet, and maybe a couple of times a years he has to resort to the laxatives and has a similar result to yours

SchrodingersImmigrant · 18/07/2020 12:04

It's poo and water. It used to happen to me.
Buy kefir or something similar, it will help you build up healthy gut. Fermented foods are the best (non pasteurised). You could take probiotic pills, but kefir is tastier😁

Northernsoullover · 18/07/2020 12:26

I should add my doctor was more sympathetic than yours. I had to send a poo sample for screening and had blood tests so try and see a different one.

pasteldechocolateconchispa · 18/07/2020 12:47

I take topirimate and I get very bad constipation we went to Spain last year and the change of food or something just made everything stop, I was eating dried fruit at breakfast, I still continued with my running, I only drink water because fizzy taste like crap and can’t drink. After 7 days or 2 week holiday I went to the chemist, I speak Spanish reasonably well although never had to use some of these words before so needed google translate, i asked politely and showed him my phone so no confusion, Male pharmacist manages probably the only English phrase of the day which set my DP off crying with laughter spanish accent Senorita this one for you is for up you bum does pushing up motion is a very quick. I said ahhh Gracias, paid and left.. it was ducolax one, good god, I was literally like the woman from sound of music after skipping round the place, never went back to the chemist though.
