Difference in mask wearing

Know I’m likely to be flamed but I’ve been to two supermarkets today.

  1. Sainsbury’s in a more “affluent” area. Very few people wearing masks
  1. Tesco - less affluent (and far more diverse area). Almost every shopper wearing a mask

These two supermarkets are less than a mile apart. What’s the difference?

I wear masks but I haven’t worn one in every shop I visit as masks aren’t compulsory yet. Eg could depend on how long I’ve had a mask on that day, the weather, how long I intend to be in the store for, what I’m doing after etc. So some of the people that weren’t wearing a mask when you saw them might on other occasions in the same store.

Also people who don’t fit the store’s demographics might still visit eg wealthy middle class customer at store in less affluent area. It’s not a comprehensive observation

@HeddaGarbled what classist insinuations? I was just a bit puzzled by the noted difference. It really was a difference too. Almost zero masks in one and almost everyone wearing in the other.

I don’t particularly fall on either side with masks - I didn’t wear one before and have started the since the guidance started to change - but have sort of followed what seems to be the norm in each shop (until now).

Sainsburys staff have been told they are not allowed to challege anyone not wearing masks as all disabilities are not visable.

Tesco staff i believe are allowed to ask their customers to wear masks.

@EmbarrassedWoman oh that’s interesting. Thinking about it Tesco had a guard on the door but Sainsbury’s didn’t so maybe that’s it!
