To book a Holiday or not?

MURU · 16/07/2020 18:40

AIBU to book a holiday to go away within the next month with three children between the ages of 1-8 Would you go abroad with COVID-19 The airports / hotels / tour operators have made sure they are Covid safe but would you risk it do you think it's too soon.... Or would you go?

Holiday companies like TUI/First Choice have now stated that they will over insurance cover on holidays for any illness or cancellations or amendments that need to be made due to COVID-19. Our friends are actually on holiday right now and their experience seems to be good with the airport the hotel (so far anyway.)

The holidays are really reasonable family of 5 £2.5k for All Inclusive 5* Hotels. We have also looked at holidays in the UK and they are coming in over £1-2k and that is just for accommodation and this is the like of Centre Parks/Butlins/Caravan sites etc so we are not talking luxury hotels and that includes no food or drink.

Thanks in advance x

No book it, i’m Off to Spain end of August, it’s going to be a long winter, when all the bugs including Covid come out, make the most of the summer

FizzyPink · 16/07/2020 18:47

I’d be careful booking anything to Spain. The rules around masks are getting stricter every day but depends on the area.

We’re supposed to be going to Barcelona in August but now you have to wear masks on the beach and at the pool, we’re a bit stuck on what to do

Alex50 · 16/07/2020 18:52

The part i’m going to no masks by the pool or beach at the moment.

I wouldn't personally as the thought of been seriously Ill in a country where I dont speak the language scares me. Also you dont know if the place will have to quarantine at a moments notice. I've also read some horror stories about people getting there and their hotels still being closed.
Obviously if places are open and flights are flying then theres no reason not to go.
As I say I wouldn't but I also wouldn't think anything of those that did. If your happy to go go and have a great time.

edwinbear · 16/07/2020 18:58

I won’t be as the rules in the UK and abroad seem to change by the hour. I’ve also heard about having to book slots for the pool/beach and I can’t be bothered with the faff. But I can completely understand others feel differently and I’d not be concerned about the travel aspect of it personally.

I'm driving to the south of France this time next week if there is still no quarantine.
First thing I've been looking forward to in months!
We're not squeamish about long drives and will have our own transport if it all goes to shit.

We have holidays booked off work next week for our summer holiday that we'd booked but cancelled.
I'm so happy we cancelled. I'd not be going.
I'd not feel safe and I'd need a holiday when be I got back to recover from the stress.

Subeccoo · 17/07/2020 09:02

We're driving to France in a fortnight, taking the euro tunnel. I'm not particularly worried. Going to a cheap campsite and if all I can do is sit by the mobile home with a beer and book for a week, I'll still be bloody over the moon to be away from my house!

MURU · 17/07/2020 09:20

@Subeccoo 😁 yes it’s a change of every day life defo needed 😁.. I don’t feel particularly unsafe as such I think I just want someone to make decision for me 😩🙃

@MURU yes we did the same, looked at here but fgs, even taking our OWN much smaller caravan will cost as much as this cheapy to France! Ok maybe the tunnel makes it a bit more expensive but definitely worth it!

FizzyPink · 17/07/2020 10:00

OP if you are going to book there are some excellent deals on BA at the moment if you book both the flight and hotel through them.

I think we’re going to cancel our Barcelona trip and get a voucher so I’m looking at something to replace it with and prices are a good couple of hundred cheaper than when I looked earlier in the week
