To be ridiculously proud of my son for something so trivial to most?

8 yr old DS. Quite bad ADHD. Had to take him into superstore today (something I tried to avoid even in pre Covid times). Not only did he only spin round once and stopped as soon as I said stop when he started to wander off, but he wore a mask the whole time and DIDN'T FIDDLE WITH HIS FACE.

I know the masks are voluntary atm and not required for under 11s but he was under the impression they were needed and I was quite happy to go along with it.

I am so absurdly proud of him. If you tell me I'm being U after all I will just have to assume you have no experience of ADHD in 8 year old boys Grin

You should always feel able to boast when your child achieves something difficult for them!

Well done him - and you!

YANBU, and congratulations to your boy for behaving so well in a stressful environment. :)

Absolutely YANBU Smile

SENDeducation · 16/07/2020 17:12

YADNBU! You should be so proud of him.

DS has ASD and wore a mask for about two minutes the other day. We acted as if he’d won an Olympic gold medal Grin

YANBU! I am a NT adult and I find it so hard to wear a mask without faffing with it. Well done to your son Smile Cake

RedOasis · 16/07/2020 17:20

YANBU. Kids need praise. And we’re allowed to feel proud

DoIneed1 · 16/07/2020 17:21

Well done to him!

sandieshaw · 16/07/2020 17:23

Sounds like he did brilliantly OP. Be as proud as you like!

Samcro · 16/07/2020 17:23

Well done him, you have every reason to be proud.

CanWeComeIntoTheOutNow · 16/07/2020 17:24

Thank you so much everyone. Am a (relatively recent) single parent so until my mum returns my call I have nobody to brag to. Thank god for Mumsnet
